5th gen (5 speed) VS v6 s10 (5 speed)

Well my friend just got back from Florida...and he wanted to race me...i didn't talk any sh!t whatsoever, because i know i have little experience and his truck is pretty quick..well here we go

We go to an abandonned industrial area with a strip a little less than a 1/4 mile in length...we line up for the first time..(it should be noted i've only launched my car a total of 3 times, once racing, so im ill experienced)..i rev it up to @4500, and he counts down...go! I slip the clutch a little, but obviously not enough...he takes me by about a car...and im still on the clutch..grrrr...i take my foot completely off, (granted im going about 20) and i do a burnout..well now it's all catchup..i start walking him, until im a hood ahead when we shut it down at @70-75..grrrrr ..im pissed, and im smelling clutch..

i ask my friend if he wants to line up again so i can practice launching my damn car...

well we line up again...this time i rev to @3,500, and say go..i slip the clutch and im peeling out pretty good, but im moving...my tach goes to @5 grand, but never drops...and then screams up to redline..at this point im still only a hair ahead of him wtf...well im winding out 1st..7,800 , 7,900, 8,000 fvck, i don't shift in time, fuel cut off ..i go from full on acceleration, to getting thrown forward...at this point he gets neck and neck with me..fvck it, i throw it into second and step on it...pulling pulling pulling..may or may not have hit fuel cut off 2nd to 3rd..dunno...anyways, by the time im at @80-85 i have about a car maybe a car and a half and walking away..

i don't count these as wins...i was hella pissed...a 4.3 v6 s10 5 speed w/ just a k&n filter was that close to a '98 base 5 speed...I was pissed as hell at my driving skills

in closing...does hitting fuel cutoff once or twice while racing hurt anything?

yeah highway races are easy, but damn.. that's pretty bad off the line! you need to practice those launches lol. Your going from too low of an RPM... If u want an easy fail safe way of a decent launch, just drop the clutch from around 4000 RPM and it shold spin a little then hook up and ure off... After more practice you can start working from a higher RPM. Let us know how u do next time.

P.S. V6 S10 is like a 17 second vehicle

They're not 17 second vehicles...low 16s i would think...0-60 in the 7's...they're no slow boats..ever seen a V6 Extreme hit it? Same thing except the s10 is stick...but still..

The 4 cylinder Extremes are slow as shiznit...and the 6 cylinders don't come in stick, so they're not as fast as s10 6 cylinder 5 speeds

^^ I dont agree with that. I'm pretty sure you COULD get all models of the S10 in stick. I used to own an ext cab V6 auto.. and it was a dog. Sigh. I know for a fact that my car is faster from all speeds. There's the road that turns on to a highway by my house, and I could never hit 60 before the first speed limit sign in my truck. I can easily hit 60 in my car WITHOUT vtec -- Shifting @ about 5k. And obviously highway speed is no comparison. Uphill with the A/C on in 5th, my car is faster lol.

BTW: I took my S10 to an 8th mile track out here, and got 11.1 @ 64mph... All those trucks have going for them is the 245 TQ, and I still got a horrible time in the 8th. gearing maybe?

Edit: My truck also had the AWESOME Xenon body kit which was good for at least an additional 20 HP
