All the driving skill in the world isn't going to add any horsepower. Now there are people who can't launch a car for sh*t, and there are people who can't hit a shift either, but there is very little driving skill involved in drag racing ones you get rolling. When I first got the car I lost a race I should have won because I was out driven, but in that race I launched like crap, hit the rev limiter in first, and then bogged second, and then shifted too soon in third. You can't get much worse than that! After about two months with the car those issues were sorted out for good, and now after having the car for 4 years there isn't that much difference in my shifting speed or launching ability.
You basically just prooved my point. It is about driver skill/understanding of their vehicle... If you never got better, youd still be getting spanked by people whose cars have worse power/weight ratio or less power sat same weight as you.
Knowing when to shift, how to shift, etc is the only reason you are able to race at all, if you thought racing was flooring it in 5'th gear, you'd keep losing and wonder why. Even though you thought you were racing, you would actually be wasting your time, and being embarassed.
well.. h23 VS h22 with both drivers being at the same level of good driving skills the H22 would win hands down from launch or rolling.. an automatic H23 vs automatic H22 will be the same exact situation.. with that said.. the talk of "it's all driving skills" is true at a certain extent because there are people who can't drive (mainly beginners or people that don't race much), but like notorious SH said all the driving skills in the world will not produce any horsepower..
ALSO.. I think you misunderstood NotoriousSH he's not really proving your point.. there's a beginner (like how he described himself in the beginning), and there's the 4 years later with nothing magical happening to his skills.. he clearly stated that he got better (After about two months with the car those issues were sorted out for good). He didn't say anything about him NOT getting better.. he's just implying that there wasn't much into getting better in driving for him..
so anyways basically saying "it's all about the driver" who will win is about 10% true and 90% jiberish.. you can only get so much better in driving, there's no supreme high level driver where a normal guy can't get to.. even the best of the best will not magically push extra horsepower in the car..

^^ exactly, I hate it when people play the "but I'm such a good driver" card, it's all BS. I could beat a Ferrari in a race, if I jumped on the guy without him being ready and then proclaimed myself a "better driver". We all know your H23's capabilities so stop trying to convince us it's somehow fast. Even the H22 is slow by today's standards (most family sedan's are packing 240+ hp) and most of us admit it. The more you talk about your kills the more we think you're a ricer.
I don't mind if you think the H23 is not that fast, Jared doesn't need to be told that eithr, he just beat a 5th gen with his H23. I bet you he had higher milage then the vehicle he raced too.
Your comment calling me a ricer was flattering, but not necessary really. Were having a discussion about how to beat an H22, with an H23. My belief is that it's in the drivers skill level. Your opinion is that the power of the car determines the race. Nobody is right or wrong, it may very well be a combination of things, and any amount of variables may be applied to any given race situation as well.
Now, if both vehicles were automatic, I might not say it was in the drivers ability, or I might depending on the mods. Does one have a locking torque converter, does one have a clutchless manual mode on the shifter etc..
I'm here to congradulate a friend on his nice victory for the team, and that it was. No need to come in here and try to talk down to people. If you'd like to discuss my personal driving skill, or vehicle modifications, I'd be happy to PM you about them.
To quote you guys:
"the morral? H23>H22"
"Sweet kill, H22 = slow!"
"VTEC, is ducksauce!"
Don't try to change your stance now that you've been called out, you're talking crap about a variation of your engine that puts out an ADDITIONAL 40 horsepower from slightly less displacement with an almost equal torque curve. Deny reality all you want, but Honda designed the H23 for commuting, not racing.
For its displacement, the H22 is fairly strong, but its certainly nothing worth bragging about. I'm not talking down on anybody, I am fully admitting the weakness of Ludes and 4 cyl Hondas in general.
