2000 Pontiac GTP

Well I was out cruising along side my friend in his GTP after putting in my new o2 sensor. Anyways a few days ago this race woulda been catching me in second and walking me in 3rd and 4th. It was a good race, i had the advantage off the line b/c we pulled up to the yellow light so i just reved and dumped 1st. he had to "floor his automatic" couldn't break torque hehehehe. anyways he runs a 14.7 with his K&N filter.

http://www.naujik.net/videos/ludevsgtp.mpeg

the part where it looks like he hits his nitrous and jumps on me is me doing a lane change cuz there was a car up ahead in his lane I'll also note that this was a new camera guy (thanks cooter) and he was in his car so it was 2 on 1. otherwise we woulda been side by side and i wouldn't of been pulling in 3rd and 4th.

Nice race. You guys seem dead even.

You should race the ITR again to see what's up now that you've got your Oxygen sensor fixed.

I'm really enjoying those racing videos. Keep them coming!!!

Got a questoin about the pontiac's... Which is faster the Grand Am, which is about a couple houndred pounds lighter, or the GTP with the supercharger? At the track I lined up next to a Grand Am with just intake and exhaust, due to my horrible reaction time he beat me, but my times were faster every time. 1/8 mile times!

I ran a 9.856 @ 73.05
he ran a 10.060 @ 71.06

I gotta agree with cliff, Racein vidoes are pritty good, and see what happens with the ITR, on film of coarse for the rest of us to share the experience

thanks cliff, yeah when i get my vforce computer put back on me and him are going to race, he went from 17s to his stock 15s, NOT FAIR, he ran a 14.1 with those 15s on, its gonna be even harder now, no matter what i do he's one step ahead heheh

as far as the grand am vs gtp, the GTP should be much faster. 240hp and 280 torque, you can't go wrong hehe

Man, I wish my comp. wasn't so slow or I would get the video. I have had a chance to drive one of the 2000 GTP's and those things are faster than hell. They have sooooo much power, can't wait to download the video.

ya my friend told me about clubgp.com i checked it out. cool to see the videos are migrating. ClubSI.com hahahha yeah, theres a place you can go for all your facts Anyways

I have a 99 Prelude, black, base 5 speed, with intake and exhaust. The other videos are from in my car if they say "ludevs(othercar)" This video was my friend trying to do the video taping from within jason's GTP. The white ITR is the car i raced and who beat me.

Little OT, but...

Prelude_LC I know you had an exhaust leak so that is why I am asking. I have Iceman CAI, AEM pulley kit, and Greddy PE. I just wanted to know how you tell if you have an exhaust leak. For some reason my car feels slower and I am just trying to troubleshoot everything. My friend has a 97 GS Eclipse with I/H/E and I am just barely faster than him. If he has a running start when passing me it takes a little bit for me to catch up. Shouldn't I be able to take him easier. Again, sorry for being OT.

vteclude

Hey Vteclude, i can help you out. I just had an exhaust leak on my SE-R that i finally fixed today.

Anyways, you can tell by the way ur exhaust sounds. If it sounds any different (kinda krusty sounding... like a fluttering to it) and will have a hint of the 'killer bee' syndrome sound to it. Thats when you know its leaking. You can goto a muffler shop and they can test for you if youre not sure.

As for the weak power, yeah that sounds pretty sad barely edging a GS with boltons, have u tried resetting your ECU? u'll be surprised how much it helps. Do so by either pulling the ECU fuse out for a minute, or disconnecting the battery cable for awhile. Then put it back and youre all set. If you want better performance you can take your car out right after resetting the computer and running it all the way to fuel cut off thru 1st-4th gear or so a few times to get all nice and set.

-Matt

When I first start up my car and accelerate pretty good there is a raspy, papery sound to it. That usually goes away after driving it for a few minutes. Could that be a leak? I usually just let the car sit after I go through the whole "pull radio fuse/let car run deal". Should I go drive it right afterwards? How long do I pull the fuse for or disconnect the negative cable for? Thanks for your help.

yes

yeah thats definently an exhaust leak, that raspy papery sound....

goto a muffler shop and get it fixed, i had to take my downpipe in 3 times before they finally got it welded up correctly.

if u disconnect battery i do it for a good 30 mins to be sure
if u pull a fuse, a minute should do the trick...

Thanks Passat,
What type of performance loss is there with an exhaust leak? Is it noticeable or just minor? What else could it effect? Could it foul my O2 sensor like Prelude_LC? Or what else should I check for? I posted before that I have been having real bad exhaust soot buildup on my bumper, could the exhaust leak have something to do with this? Sorry for all the questions but I just want to be able to "WALK" my friends eclipse.
