04 WRX vs JDM h22a

a friend of mine with a stock 04 WRX wants to run me this weekend. I haven't run against one yet and I wanted to know what you think will happen.

i've got a few mods I/H/E/P, test pipe, flywheel, clutch, and motor mount inserts all on a jdm h22a w/ LSD.

i realize there's no chance to try from a stop, but i told him from a roll, so he doesn't have all the advantage

come on Brian, i know you have one, but can you still give me some words of encouragement or hope??? heh heh

them things got short gears you might beat him its hard to say thou he does have more hp but with that awd he'll be losing some hp......well all i gotta say is........do it in a safe environment last thing u want is a racing charge that your insurance would love to see

from a roll with your mods you should have little trouble pulling away, from a stop, you could beat him as well, although youd be playing catchup till the end of third or so assuming he really drops it...

You will definately beat him from a roll if the rex is stock as long as you can drive your car. From a stop I still think you could beat him.

am i wrong in thinking that the 04 wrx has 300 hp... (is that the sti?) ...i was under the impression he'd die from a stop, and from a roll it'd stil be a challenge.. iono i've never really raced a wrx never got the chance and i always personally looked at them with a bit of i'm gonna loose for sure mentality... course i don't ever race anyways so yea what do i know

yes that's the STi. the 04 WRX has 227hp i believe. unfortunately we did not get to race. pretty worried about cops cause they seemed to be everywhere in austin this weekend. i'm pretty sure I'll be able to take him to the track with me this fall and we'll race at the dragstrip.

a stock WRX dyno's at around 181 whp...LOTS of power loss thru the AWD trans...i think it'd be pretty close from a stop, but from a roll, you'll pull 'im.

Daniel you are going to lose

In my last WRX (the black one) I ran Zef for HPC the beltway one night for a 3rd gear 70 MPH roll. Zef had a freak NA lude that was putting down 195WHP vs my stock WRX. We were almost dead even (I pulled maybe a foot on him) al the way though 3rd, but once a I got into 4th it was all over for me. 4th gear on a WRX is geared for economy, goes for 95ish to 132 so there isn’t much acceleration.
He has you for a stop (taken he is a decent driver and doesn’t bog on the launch), but for a roll it would be a close race. You will defiantly pull him after 3rd (until you JDM limiter kicks in ) but it might be a close race 1-3

BTW: when do i get my chance to run you.

he was putting down 195whp...and couldnt pull your old wrx?? thats weird...but oh well... my car put down 195ish on a dynojet and 175 on a mustang dyno, my freind had a 03 WRX with intake and exhaust, and i murdered him in every gear...except from a stop.....he could easily put 2 cars on me from the line...the AWD is a great stoplight to stoplight car...people who have no clue get demoralized when thier behind by 2-3 cars in a few seconds

we'll definately head to the track in seguin/marion, TX at least once this semester brian. The university autosport group is really falling apart, but i'm sure I can find a group of people to go with us.

my cousin brought up his 04 wrx this weekend, got to try it out and its a pretty quick car in stock form. Off the line = murder for preludes (stock for stock). My lude may only have a chance to keep up from a roll using redline shifts, (hes a sissy and shifts at 6000 rpm cause the engine sounds to loud lol)

That lude should of ripped your WRX a new one. I have 180+ at the wheels and don't have a problem with slightly modded ones from a role.
