01 Prelude VS 01 Lexus IS300

Been studying the Lexus this time guys. I think this has got what im looking for. Not too much more HP, but alot more torque and I hear their handling is awesome. Anyone have any experience with this car? If you get em used, they are still expensive, but more affordable.

I've always loved the is300's, i've never riden in one or drove one but they definitly look really nice. The only thing is i've always thought that they were rwd.. are they? I dont know if you would mind that... thats the only thing i would be worried about personally. Should be pretty quick too, espically with some mods. How expensive is expensive? because theres probally tons of other better options out there if your looking for performance.

I can find an 01 IS 300 for rougly 13 - 15k with decent milieage if i do my homework. That is really not too bad. I have seen as low as 12k. I paid 10k for my lude. That is not that much difference. Yes they are RWD, but they have traction control and limited slip differentials. If you get a set of winter tires, your set for the snow with all those combinations.

IS300's are badass. when I lived in miami, my commute home was the same time as a guy with a blue IS. every day we'd get as far as we could while the road was still open (before the rush hour traffic jam) and he would WALK me every time we got on it; stock-for-stock (which we were) they way outclass the prelude. more torque, more hp, inline six with a 2jz-gte supraTT swap possibility;

they're great cars!

I've heard Ludes can walk the IS300, it's only like 215 hp without the top end pull that the Lude has.

They dont weigh too much more and they have alot more torque. My Lude is an automatic and the IS300 ill be getting is automatic also. I would think the IS300 would be the better car in this setup.

Stock for Stock, a stick Lude is faster than an auto IS300. I haven't raced a stick IS, though.

Yes, there is alot of traffic. I had a stick 240sx and i hated it. Its more than the traffic, its also a preferance. There is a point...i have owned automatic hyundais and an automatic 240sx and an automatic prelude...they are more fun, the more power you have. Just because you like automatic, does not mean you shouldnt get a sports car. The automatic Hyundai... was...well..just a car. The 240sx was ALOT more fun and the Honda is even more fun than that since i can shift the gears manually if i want to. Some people just dont like stick. I dont see why i should be destined to buy something non-sport just because of that. Granted a 5spd is faster, but im not looking to race here. IM looking to have an automatic with more balls than the prelude automatic and still retain the sporty feel and such. The Lexus seems to satisfy that without breaking the bank.

I have raced the Auto IS300...I ahd bad motor mounts and I took off on it...he had about a bumper on me....When I got my mount fixed I beat it about 1 car. My friend has a '06 Civic SI he WALKED all over the IS......From start to finish...From start to top end the SI crushed the IS.....IS stops making power after what 6k? Lude and new SI after 76ish....I have cams now so I always beat the IS now.....The IS has intake and headers.....suspension on it in my opinion SUCKS.....he went around a corner and almost lost it....when he drives fast it doesnt seem too stable to me....... just my opinion though

This is cool, but a comparison of STOCK automatic Prelude VS STOCK automatic IS300 would probably be a better comparison. Im pretty sure a 5spd IS300 would beat out a 5spd Prelude, stock for stock. As far as 5spd VS Auto.... im not surprised at all that the Prelude would win. I wouldnt keep that IS300 stock anyway..at least not the suspension. Better shocks and lowering springs are always an order in my book.

I've raced and DRIVEN a 5 speed IS300.. And it isnt faster if even by a second if it was.. It had NO top end.. And decent low end..

^^ in that case if i were you, and my price range was 10-15 grand i would look into GTI's, rsx-s, but it totally depends on the driver, thats just me. If you're just looking to have a nice looking, luxury like car (lexus) to cruise around in then i would say it would be a great car for you. But if you're looking for performance by the sounds of it it doesent sound like the IS is that great, and for how much they cost you could be getting something alot better.

I know.... its a rough debate. The Lude is pretty much at the top of the game as far as power and torque goes, in its class. You really cant do much more unless you get something like a 350z or the like, or a larger sedan. I really like the RWD, and that is what attracted me to the Lexus. If im gunna stay FWD, im sticking with the Lude. I dont really like GTI's or the RSX. Not to mention im only getting automatic. I figured.... automatic, RWD, sum sport/luxery all in one tight package....LEXUS IS300 LOL
