'00 base vs. 300Z TT auto

I was driving away from the coin wash when I noticed a beedy eyed car on my ass. We both got on the same freeway entrance when I discovered it was a 300Z. I could hear the BOV and also the automatic tranny.

We followed each other a bit, and exchanged "the look". We were side by side on a straight part of freeway with no one in front when all of a sudden he put it down (we were doing 60). By the time I was in 3rd gear, he was 1 car length in front. But, from there on he didn't pull on me an inch all the way up to 95 MPH.

Thinking that the 1st start was a little unfair, I got back up next to him (at 60MPH) and dropped it down into 3rd. I could hear him put it down a split second later. From there I pulled and ended up 1 1/2 car lengths in front of him by 95 MPH.

Does anyone have the 0-60 and 1/4 mile stats on these 300s? Should I have stayed so close? I'm getting to think I have a "miracle motor".

could be a lot of factors. I don't think taht you shoulda pulled on him that much even if it was an auto, but a wins a win. If it was an auto/na you woulda stomped it way more than 1 carlenght or so. My friend has an auto GTP, it takes him a day and half to downshift that car. I'm sorry i'd never get an auto car for racing, its just plain annoying if you're not in the 12s or faster.

He should have beaten you. I used to own a TTZ 5spd and my freind had an auto. The only time a honda ever beat him was when he had a vacuum leak. I never raced a honda that was worthy enough, when I had mine.

Well, it doesn't surprise me any. There's a few cars I've raced where either they should've won or should've tied. (Jacques can confirm this... )

I think I've got a freak engine or something!

I would consider myself to be fairly aggressive. I don't power shift or anything, but I do bury it. Usually I shift at around 8k on the stock tach. Who knows what that REALLY is considering its accuracy.

Wow, that kill had to make you feel good. Auto turbo Zs run to 60 in about 6 flat and on to a quarter of 14.6!

Oh...you just HAD to remind me . With the pulleys though, I expected you to beat me...that, and my car is heavy . Y'know, I raced Mr. Ludecrs, and not you. I say, in our "rematch", I get to race both of you . Of course, by then you'll have that lightened flywheel and clutch installed .

Becky, after reading this post, and the ITR story you told me before, I think you got a freak engine !
