XM troubles.help.(jonBaker99 you do installs??)

hi, i installed my alpine xm tuner and antenna that i got the other day from crutchfield. anyway, sounded great in the garage, i back out to leave today to go on a small trip and when i get about a block away, the xm sorta cuys in for a minute then nothing for a minute. finally after about 5 minutes it went into "loading" mode. it did this for awhile, then says "no signal". i called the tech at xm and he didn't know ****. i havn't had a chance to tear into to see if anything is loose. i did look into the trunk and all the connections going to the xm tuner seem well connected. i have an alpine cda-7894 head unit with the alpine xm tua-t020xm tuner with the thru-glass terk sr1x antenna.

here is what i did.

hooked up power wire
hooked up ground wire
hooked up green and tan/yellow (whatever color you call it) antenna wires
hooked up ai-net cable
cut a 2"x2" hole in the rear window tint, where the antenna is mounted. antenna is not over any radio or defogger lines.

this may be where i f'ed up........this antenna has a red power wire and a black ground wire. looks like according to the lame instructions that you only use these wires to test it (in case you havn't hooked up the tuner part yet). otherwise you do not need them.????? am i right about this, or do i need to connect them?

tia. everyone.

I'm guessing you have the glass mount antenna
is it still aliagned properly?
try resetting the unit
sometimes it just goes into loading for a short period of time

Yeah sounds like that very may well be the problem. Also I know mine does that from time to time. The secret I found is to power off the radio. Let it sit for like 2-3 minutes then power it up. My alpine has done the same thing a few times.

^^ well, i had the newer mouse looking one. i do not like things on the paint, so i took it back. i was looking at the newer one (xm11) that is glass mounted but has wires you run down the weatherstripping. it looked like it would be a pain to install, since toward the bottom sides of the glass, there isn't much weatherstripping and very little room to get anything under it. do i have any other options? does any other companies make any?

well, i repositioned the antenna and it fixed it. but the fm reception sucks ass now. it seems to be worse, from the wires from the antenna (xm) running under the headliner. when the headliner is up, it pushes the wire up against the window where the fm lines are. any ideas???

btw: thanks everyone.
