Wiring For New Setup

I've got a 4G that I'm about to setup with new component speakers in the front. My question is on how to wire them up properly. I think I have it right in my head, I've done a few speaker swaps and head units before.

I plan on running new wiring from the components to the head unit. So lets start at the mids in the doors, run two wires(+and-) to the crossover, which I plan on mounting behind the tweeters if there is room.
Then run two more from the tweeters to the crossover as well. Finally run another set of wires from the crossover to the headunit.
Now at the headunit should I just cut the wires that would go to the factory lines and connect them to my new ones?
Lastly what if I was to throw in a little 4 channel amp? Would I basically be running my wires from my crossovers to the amp insted of the head unit? And then just the RCA lines to the amp?

It is easier to start at the SOURCE, right now, in your case, that is the HU speaker level output for left and right front channel. This is considered a PASSIVE crossover configuration because the inpu tyou are feeding to the crossover is already at speaker/power level. (the opposite of course being tuning/attenuation BEFORE amplification)
---and for clarification, the verbiage, a "SET" of wires, automatically assumes the +/- leads:

from the HU output you will run a set of wires to the component crossover input (two screws, + and - ) This unit should be mounted within the cabin of the vehicle due to concerns about moisture in the doors. Once you have signal to the crossover, there will be two outputs (4 screws for two sets of wires--one for the tweeter and one for the mid) then run the wires to the appropriate speaker and you are done.
________________________

the second part is what is called "Active" Control. It is commonly a 12V powered component that goes in the signal line BEFORE amplification (ie: from the RCA/signal output of the HU) then on to a Power amplifier to bring it up to "speaker Level."
so your connections would be as follows:
1- HU RCA Out to Crossover In
2- Crossover RCA out to amplifier Input (one amp per channel/frequency-Hi/Mid/bass)
3- AMplifier Speaker output to Speaker input

Thanks alot for the reply, basically I had the first version right but the second using the amp I would have done all wrong. I'm gonna tackle it this weekend, should be pretty straightforward thanks to your help.

I tried to run new wires through the door gromet and had no luck, became very frustrated, which is not an easy thing for me I'm usually very level headed. So after a few choice words I am trying to use the two wires that are run to the factory door speakers as part of my new wiring.
These wires end at the tweeters run throught the woofers and end at the head unit of course. So what I am doing is using the wires in the door to connect to my new woofers. Then where they end at the tweeter I am hooking them to the crossover outputs for the woofers. Now at the head unit I have cut these same colored wires and connected them to new wire from the HU outputs for the front speakers to the input for the crossover, and I have also hooked up my new tweeters with their own wires.
It seems like it would work to me. I know it's not the highest quality setup, but it will work for now until I gather myself enough to run new wires again right?
