drill a hole in the firewall or I think there was a grommet little above where the ecu is and behind the cruise control

Under the fuse box on the passenger side closest to the windshield .... you could follow that down into the car into the passenger side footwell. No cutting required.

I finally used the same grommet where the engine wiring harness goes thru the firewall. I think it’s the best place and very easy to.

I just installed an amp today and a box on my 98 SH and I used a cigarette lighter/charger outlet's "power" wire to work with my amp and left outlet work the same way it was working. Simply connect to it. It is easier to run a wire under your unit instead of drilling firewall or look for a tiny tunnel to access the batterry. You still need a Monster (or similar) cable with a fuse to connect. Also you can use any speaker's wire (just one! ) to connect a "remote" wire to your amp. Sound remains the same and no harm to speakers or amp or outlet.

1) This thread has been dead for 4 years.

2) The power wire for the cigarette lighter is only 22 gauge wire. Unless you have a super weenie amp, that is not nearly big enough. Even a small amp still requires 10 or 8 AWG wire to hook up safely.

Ya, I'll second that. Great way to start a fire, although most likely you'll just keep blowing fuses.
