Whats the best headunit you guys think?

i wanted the pioneer z3 but im waiting for the better newer model to come out.. untill then i need a temp one.. wanna spend around 3-400.. was thinking about the alpine x001 but it doesnt play cds.. and i read its hard to pick radio stations... other then that everything else just doesnt look as good... should i pay the extra couple hundred and just get a jensen? they seem pretty awesome but i dunno whats the best i can get?clarions dont look that great... seems technology is a bit slow..... thx

Just buy the one you like best in terms of looks.
How it sounds will most definitely be decided by your speakers.

Personally, I have had 2 Alpine units and they've both performed flawlessly for me.

Eclipse CD4000 - In-dash AM/FM, CD, MP3, WMA player with Remote • 50W x 4 chan. Max • 14W x 4 chan. RMS • 4 mode preset Equalizer • 5V High Voltage • 3 Preamp Output • iPod-ready (optional) • remote - , In-Dash Head Units, Receivers, CD Receivers wit

Killer price for a high-mid range eclipse deck. $140.
The only drawback is that it does not have a removable face.

I have had the Z2, F90bt, and now the Kenwood DNX8120. While they all have pros and cons, the Kenwood comes out on top. I will NEVER buy another Pioneer headunit based off the sub-par functionality of the F-series and their superior lack of customer service.

I'm on my second Alpine head unit.

I agree, the quality and craftsmanship could be nothing other than flawless.

I ordered the CDA-9986 over the summer for about $275.00, and some Alpine Sps-600 coaxial speakers for about $60.00.

I could not be happier. Alpine for life.

have you looked at the Alpine cde-9886? it has the full speed i-pod cable that charges the ipod. it also has ai net for an auxilary input. a usb connector in case you stored music on a thumb drive or external hard drive. and lets not forget the cd player. it has all the tech. as the cde-x001 media player plus cd. as far as quality goes you can kill an alpine. Im a mecp certified installer have been for nearly two years now and all i run is alpine(headunits). customers have come in with nearly 10 year old alpines and the only reason they want a new one is for the ipod connection.
so go to your local Bestbuy and look at the CDE-9886 and i think they even offer a 4 year extended warrenty for a little extra. msrp is around $299
