What setup would hit harder

was curious for future setups which would hit harder:

2 12" pioneer ts-w304dvc with 190watts rms@2ohms goin to each one

or

1 12" sony xs-l1246 with 380watts rms@4ohms

here are the speaker specs
pioneer:
frequency response 18-2,000 Hz
power range 50-300 watts RMS
peak power 600 watts
sensitivity 89 dB SPL
dvc
sony:
frequency response 20-2,500 Hz
power range 50-400 watts RMS
peak power handling 1200 watts
sensitivity 89 dB

thnx

id have to say the sony 12. you will have much more power going to it. some say 2 are better than 1 but it all depends on the power you are running them/it at and what frequency is being fed to them/it,

If I were you, I'd go with a better sub. The Sony will pound, but it may not be very clear. 4 ohms is a pretty bad setup with one sub. I like to stick with 2 ohms or lower for a good clean pound.

I went with a 4 ohm 12" once, with more power than you're going to give, and it didn't bump as much as I wanted, and when it did, it was sloppy bass.

If money is an issue, instead of going with two pioneers, go with JL w's. They sound great with low power, and later on, you can up the power and make em REALLY pound.

pioneer ts-w304dvc
Xmax=8.3mm

sony xs-l1246
Xmax=5 mm

The sub with the greatest Xmax (linear excursion) is going to be louder.

Just remember, this is not a hard and fast rule. There ARE other factors that affect how loud a sub is. For comparing entry level subs (like we are here), it might be the only real way of doing it though.

Yeah, I understand that Xmax is not always the determining factor, but until you start getting into high end subs with extremly large surrounds that limit cone area, or custom enclosures to maximize cabin gain, it can be a good gauge.

As always though, the best way to pick out any speaker is to go and listen to it. If your looking for a sub and an enclosure, always get a demo in your car, the subs will behave very differently in your car than they will in the showroom.

Exactly.. . .I just didn't want people to get the mindset of "biggest excursion=loudest sub, bar none".
