Alumapro Alchemy, OZ matrix, IDQ, Boston Acoustic Pro, ADS, Crystal Comp. Did I leave anything out? There is consensus that these are some of the best. Do some research and pick something that you like. You can't loose with these.
Alumapro! I was also contemplating of getting the same JL subwoofer but decided to go with Alumapro. I have a 10 inch JL w3 in my wife's Passport and it is not even close to my Alumapro. I have an MTX Thunder 500D mono amp and a BP10 Alumapro.

I've listened to the W3's, and I think they sound pretty good. They sound almost exactly the same as the more expensive W6, & I wouldn't say they're overpriced for how they sound. I may be wrong though, because I haven't listened to that many subs to compare them to. T^he W3's have good sound quality, and a little bit o' bump too. Just IMO.
I say go out & listen to as many different subs & see what YOU like. To reccomend subs, we need a bit more info. Like, what kind of music do you listen to? Is sound quality very important to you? How much do you care about SPL? Are you using a single 10", or 2, or 3, or more? What's your budjet?
Odysseus has some good suggestions. Those are all good subs, oriented mostly towords SQ. HTH.
do not buy anything BUT JL? you're obviously one of those hardcore JL fanatics that think everything else sucks.. There's a lot of subs out there that are just as good if not better... a few that come to mind are the boston acoustics pro series, crystal cmp's, velodyne (one of the best), alumpaor alchemy, even the idq's are nice and they are dirt cheap... and i wouldnt say rockford subs sound very nice, loud as ****, but they sound like ****
I've always loved the sound of the W6 series...now there ae quite a few speakers who have caught and maybe even passed the JL's....the ones listed are nice..except i don't like the Bostons....Infinity Perfects ....PPI Pro series are nice as well....I have 2 a/d/s 8" and 2 a/d/s 10" speakers....i have also had 3 JL audio 12W6's all have sounded nice....now the Jl's hit much harder...but the quality of the a/d/s are great
I have Brand new Infinity Kappas for sale...
I have 4 10's, let me know if you are interested.

NewRide are those 308rs' you're using? If so how do they compare to the W6? I heard some of the 310 and 312RS and thought they sounded good. I'm doing a single 8 in a sealed box with an 8W6 for my dad's Miata and just wonder how the 308rs would compare. My guess is it gives up a little low-end and SPL to the 8W6.
ummm i like focal subs and components... no one seemed to have mentioned those, i think they have a clearer sound and a harder push then JL's, but thas just me
JL is by no means the center of the subwoofer universe. Not even close.
How much are you looking to spend, Screwed?
I have a Boston Acoustics Competitor 10"
that cost me $200 brand new. They're an excellent subwoofer. Not as hard-hitting as the Pro series, but the Pros are EXTREMELY power hungry and need a LOT of mounting space. The Competitor is exactly the opposite. They don't need much power, and need very small enclosures (though they must be sealed!!).
Excellent subwoofer in many facets, including sound and build quality.
Now... if you're looking to spend BIG bucks, bypass Boston altogether (though the Pros are still pretty damned awesome). Go for the new Eclipse or Diamond titanium ones.
How about Dynaudio?

I want to add a couple of 12" subs to the Bose system in my TL. My local shop recommended some Eclipse speakers and a Phoenix Gold amp with custom enclosure for around $1000. Is this a good deal? What model amp and speakers should I make sure they use for the $1000 price. I don't mind if it cost maybe $200 more for better quality.

Yeah the 8's give up some Db's to JL's but sound a heck of a lot cleaner...and they hit nice as well....the 10's hit really really hard and clean

i know what u mean. i had an alchemy 10 and it hit a lot harder and was punchier than my oz 250L. but the oz sounds so much better! i can cross the sub pretty high and it'll still blend with my mids. come to think of it, i can't really hear or locate the sub, all i hear is music!
