I'm planning on adding a JBL bp300.1 mono amp for my sub to my existing 4 channel amp. What do I need? Do I need one of those distributer blocks, or will the power be fed directly from the battery like the first amp?

To distribute the power, you will need a distribution block (preferably a fused one). You will also need a way to distribute the signal from the HU. If the 4 channel amp has RCA uotputs, then you just need to connect a jumper from one amp to the other. If it dosnt, you can use Y-adaptors to split the signal.
using a distributor block is good. have at least a minimum of 8 awg power wire. also, the preamp outputs is a thing to consider. if you only have 2 pairs of preamp outputs, and you are using both of them, you might want to run a Y cable splitter to accomodate the extra amp.

ie kenwood+rockford. so you are saying that the preamp out on the kenwood i can just get shorter wire and plug it into the rocford input in?
Yes, just make sure the signal from the first amp is not affected by the crossover (if any). Most amps have pre-amp outputs that send an un-modified (non crossed over) signal.
The two amps are not the same brand, one is a jvc and the other is a jbl. The 4 channel is a 200 watt, while the other is a 300 watt. My Head unit, (a panasonic) has a sub out, so i'm figuring that the rca will hook up through there. But what I'm worried about is the power...like is it necessary to hook the two "together", or can the signal be connected through the head unit, while the power is connected from the battery separately?

i guess jpresto you saying that the headunit has two set of rca's, and ur going to have one set going to the one for the sub and then getting y splitters to make the other set have two sets for the 4 channel, then get a dis. block to separate power for the two amps? correct?
does the 4 channel amp have pre-outs or not? if it dosnt, use the y-splitters. If it does, just use a short patch cabe between the 2 amps. In either case, you need a fused distro. block for the power wires. For the remote wire, you can just splice it into two. . .you can run up to about 3 devices this way. If you have more than 3 devices needing a remote turn-on, you will need a relay.
