stripped door panel tweater screw

my buddy was removing his door panel to run some wire and the screw on the driver side beside the tweater has been stripped he struggled with it it for 1 hour trying to take it out and now its just gotten worse and has basically nothing he can take it out with...

any suggestions

if he rips apart the tweater side would he have to replace the whole thing or just put another tweater?

thanks

dude what are u talking about???

the tweater part is totally different from the door panel..

even if break the tweater part in half i would still not need a door panel, just the tweater part of it...

have you ever opened a door panel before??

Well, there's all the common stripped screw "solutions". Sometimes you can find a torx bit that will jam in tight enough to get it out. Or you could take a dremel & grind a new slot in it to use a flathead screwdriver.

If worst comes to worst, use like a 1" hole saw around the screw to separate the doorhandle/tweeter assembly from the screw. You could even reuse the assembly until you can get a new one.

i mean its basically a circle in the screw with no grip or anything to attach at all...

Just get a set of screw extractors. My set of 5 different sizes cost like $9. You just drill a small pilot hole, then turn the screw ectractor counterclockwise. The extractor is reverse threaded, so it tightens as you turn it ccw, and then removes the screw.

dude u should see the screw its hellla small and the screw is right by the door latch so it is already hard to work with from the begining...

We know exactly what screw you're talking about (#50 in this picture), but there's no magic answer here. Try a screw extractor set, needle nose pliers, dremel a slot, whatever. And like I said, last resort, bust out a hole saw & buy a new handle assembly afterwards.

I'm surprised it got stripped, though - he must have been using a really crappy screwdriver. It's only screwed into a plastic slot.

I've used screw extractors on some pretty damn small screws. I've also used 5 minute epxoy to glue a screwdriver, then turn it.
