All I want to do is upgrade from the factory CD player. I was told by Best Buy install that in order to change head units, they would need to completely rewire everything from front to back because of the rear amp and the acoustic feedback system, about $100 extra in labor. Are they full of S or just ignorant?

its semi-true

you dont really need to rewire it for a head unit, but your rear speakers may not play.

we have a writeup here in the FAQ section where you can do it yourself.
I did it myself and i'd rate it 4 between 1 out of 10 on difficulcity

That head unit FAQ does look pretty simple, just yanking out the old unit, splice together new harness, and install new unit. Are you saying if I follow that FAQ to the tee I still run the risk of losing rear speakers?
