Problem with Honda security/remote

I'm having trouble locking/unlocking my car using my remote (Honda, OEM, 1998, 5th gen). It's intermittant. I changed the batteries in all my remotes and I thought that fixed the problem, but it didn't.

I have to press the button lots of times. Finally the car responds. Maybe the remote itself is failing. Buttons worn out or something.

Anyone having similar problems? Ever got it fixed?

I usually push mine a few extra times to unlock the passenger door, but that's because there's a delay in the locking system and I probably click too fast. Usually one press will lock or unlock, but it's never felt as responsive as other keyless entries I've used.

I have to push my 3-20 times. For the previous 8 years it always worked on the first try.

My car's battery is less than a year old. (Searched - someone had this problem and fixed it by getting a new battery for the car.)

If replacing the battery doesn't work, it could also be the keyless entry unit failing. I had my OEM keyless entry/security unit on my 2000 Civic crap out on me. I kept pressing the button numerous times before the doors unlocked/security disarmed. Then, one day, it just didn't work and I had to actually turn the key to open the door and disarm the security. Come to think of it, it was just the keyless entry unit then.

See if you can test the unit (or bring it to Honda and have them test it).
