Prelude Theft Question

Hello everyone,

I am currently selling my 2000 Electron Blue Pearl Civic Si because of theft reasons. The car has been broken into numerous times, despite my alarm and other theft deterrents. The car is not even modded besides it being lowered. I live in Southern California, and it appears that civics / integras are hot right now. Because I am attending college, I do not have the time nor access to watch over the car. I just want to get rid of it before I end up paying more money to fix the damages theives leave, or before it is completely gone.

So - I am interested in purchasing a 5th Generation prelude, but am wondering if I will have the same problem as I do with the Civic Si. I really do not know how theft is for the Prelude, and just wanted to ask you guys for your thoughts?

From what I think - because the Prelude doesn't really have universal parts like the Civic or Integra, theft would be considerably lower, assuming I were to have an alarm / other theft detterents. Also - it seems to be in a different category than the civic / integra (more-so like an RSX of Accord Coupe)

Anyhow I would greatly appreciate it if you could give me your thoughts ...

Thanks,
Brent

It comes in waves and i think popular cars have it worse.

I just had my cf hood and stereo stolen 3 weeks ago. But i had the car 3 years before that with 0 problems. One window busted. however, i'm still convinced that was an exgf.

I'd say unless you have a 1970 < * you're gonna get broken into. They assume that all "tuner" cars have "stereos" and "rice mods". Just keep it stock. as in not lowered, and people will leave you alone.

it's still a "honda".. go euro or get a kia or something if u are seriously worrying about it.. my friend recently got his car jacked and stripped.. his car is a si too.. any ways.. if u don't wanna get ur car broken into or stolen, go for a car that's less noticeable or uncommon cars that thieves are not familiar with.. prelude looks same as civic in the eyes of thieves..

5th Gen ludes atleast have the immobolizer system- basically a chip in the key, so the average thief is either going to sit there and rip apart your dash forever, or he is going to push or tow your car to somewhere else for his lesiure to rape your car.

There are a few other methods of taking a 5th gen but no point in giving someone a blueprint on how to steal a prelude.

The Immobolizer for me was a definite plus in my decision to purchase. Add an A/M car alarm and a wheel lock if your that paranoid.

Most theft I think can be avoided by common sense.. not rocking your awesome stero all the way to where you park, provoking young punks in a hooptie just before you get to your destination..and theirs.

Thiefs still do want the H22A4, but I personally think we are kinda not on the radar screen anymore.. as Stock Turbos in other cars and plenty of new models since 2001 ( last year of production for Prelude.)

Besides Civics are ghey.

The immobolizer system is easy and I mean EASY to bypass so i wouldn't have too much faith in it if I were you.

Very good point. Unlike Tegs and Civics, Preludes aren't really "Everywhere".

I mean there is alot if you want to see 'em, but not as much.
And statistics of how many 5th gens were produced shows that 5th gen ludes aren't anywhere close to tegs/civics.

Then again, like above member said, its still a honda.
You will get attention from theives no matter what.
2 month after I got my lude, My car got stripped at a lot. 50% of the stuff got jacked(as far as aftermarket stuff goes, including CF hood, wheels, full stereo system, etc).

Just remember to take care of it.
If you don't want to stand that, don't buy a honda.
Remember, 5th gens still got H22s in 'em, which is a pretty hot item.
Not as hot as b16s and b18s, but h22s definitely got popularity.

Get some very decent alarm, maybe lo-jack on top of that, take a good care of it, and pray that you won't get jacked.
Then again, good theives can bypass just about any alarms in the market.
If you still want to go ahead and trust alarm, research little bit, you will see some very good tips on custom alarm setup.

Just remember these few tips.

-Always park where people is always around.
-Don't park at places where you don't know. Especially at night. (If have to, try to use car-cover.)
-Garage kept is definitely recommanded.
-Always double check & make sure door is locked, and alarm is armed.
-Try not to park so far away from where you are going to be. So in case anything happens, you can easily see/run to your car.
