Anyone can answer these if you guys know! Thanks
bumping an old thread, few questions:
1 - How much empty space is in between the bottom of the amprack and the top of the subwoofer enclosure?
2 - If i mount my amps on top of the subwoofer enclosure, (instead of on a 2nd layer like you did), will the excess vibrations on the sub potentially be detremental to the amps? (I'm assuming no because I see amps mounted to sub boxes all the time)
3 - How thick is the top layer? I'm assuming thin enough so that the wire inserts on the amps aren't being blocked by any part of the wood.
4 - How is sound effected when you have the carpet on top of the grille?
5 - If I replaced that grille with a completely solid piece (or just throw the stock trunk wood on top), will it substatially effect my sound quality?
I want to do a similar setup, but don't want it to sound crappy as hell either. I would like to avoid having the top of the subwoofer exposed because I use my trunk often. A grille with the trunkmat carpet on the top layer would work I guess.
Thanks!

2. I don't think it would mess up the amp, no, but most of the time there is at least a layer of carpet to dampen some vibration. I'd at least use that, or rubber spacers or something between the amp and box.
3. It's all 3/4" MDF. Keep in mind that these amps are designed to be flush mounted so they're a bit different than what you've seen, but you're right.
4. Honestly I'm not sure. I've never been in my car and had someone remove it to see if I could tell a difference. I can't imagine it's much of a difference. To be brutally honest, this isn't the greatest sound quality setup anyway, but I wanted it for the space and stealth install so I did it. It still works perfectly for my ears.
5. Umm...that I don't know. At first I thought "Why would you do that?!" but then I realized it probably wouldn't matter much. Most of the sub's output is felt and not heard anyway probably, you know? I don't think it would be a huge problem, but if it was, it would be very easy to simply drill a bunch of 1" holes with a hole saw to make a sort of "grill".
