OK, just installed my new JVC AVR360 CD Player using a Honda wiring harness, the same one i've used on 2 other fifth gen ludes. It is the Scoche brand harness from walmart, you connect red to red, green to green, green/black to green/black etc. Then it plugs directly into the stock plug that use to plug into the back of the stock deck. I did this turned it on and nothing is coming from the rear. Used the fader to put all music to the rear and it goes silent but front 2 work fine. I pulled it all out and triple checked the wiring, each color is connected to it's correct color. Plugged it back in and still no sound to the rear. Does this have anything to do with the A.F.S.??? Thats the only thing i can think of, but I've installed 2 aftermarket Head Units into friends 5th gens. the same exact way and the rears worked... Any ideas???
why is that????
I had the 2 blues discconnected @ first and the rears didnt work, so i pulled the whole thing out and connected the blues (i thought maybe they were needed to activate the AFS or something, and still nothing from rear
Should i somehow bypass the AFS???
How do i check things without pulling it alll out again???
The radio also had 2 orange wires on it, one solid one orange and silver i think, they siad illumination and something else on them, neither of those are connected to anything.
On my Clarion unit, I had to run a wire from the remote lead on the harness (blue/white) to the AFS box. If you pull the cover off the AFS box, pull out the board, you'll see one solder tab marked "amp out" on the bottom IIRC. Solder the other end of the wire to that spot and you're good to go. Interestigly, with my newer Eclipse unit, the rear speakers worked automatically. Go figure.
If you use an 18 or 16 gauge wire, all you need is a flatblade screwdriver to tuck it under the trim - you shouldn't need to take anything apart - its an easy job.
There's a how-to thread for that buried somewhere in this forum but its pretty straightforward.
i don't know what features your jvc has, but check the settings in the radio. mine was set to 4ch and there was no sound out of the rear, when i changed it to 2ch, the rears worked fine.

i didn't bypass afs, what all is involved in that?
Hmmm Lude4lifeh22 (Simon) will have to chime in on how to bypass the AFS (he did all the work) I just rounded up every extension in the garage to help him reach the amp bolts
I am having the same problem with my 99 Prelude the deck im using is a JVC KD-G120 it is just a temporary for right now until I upgrade but the rear speakers cut in and out when i turn it up all the way.
