New 6.5" speakers won't fit 4th gen rear?

I went to buy new speakers for my rear deck. 4th gen (6.5")
I got some Memphis 50w 2 ways. They did not fit in the speaker mount at all. The metal base of the speaker was too large to set into the speaker mount. I got some Alpine Type S instead, but even those wouldn't just drop in. I had to dremel out the lip of the speaker mount to get them to fit right.

Just a warning for those looking to fit speakers in the back

What? I dropped in some Alpine Type-S 6.5's in my rear deck a couple of months ago without any problems or modifications. Those definitely fit.

well they barely dropped in. could be a different year speaker or a different speaker mount. i had to buy the speaker mounts from the dealer last year.

But, the type s have 4 screw holes and the mounts have 3. was this the same for you?

Yep, but that's nothing that self-tapping screws don't fix.
