Just got some new 6x9's (Boston Acoustics RM9) for my Gen 5 'lude and I can't wait to hear how they sound! Anyway, I'll be installing them myself and I want to do things right. Any advice will be much appreciated.
To start things off, I'll ask the following:
( 1 ) How the heck do you unbuckle those gray plastic plugs attached to the original speakers? I don't mean remove it from the speaker, but how do I seperate the two sets of wires. Should I just clip the wires?
( 2 ) What must I do to retain the Acoustic Feedback System.
( 3 ) Any other do's and don'ts? Easier ways to do things.
To Remove the Grey things, all you have to do is slip them off. Look Closely at them, and you'll see an opening where you can simply slide em off. If that doesnt work, push on one of the sides, and the two cables should come apart.
I dont know if i retained the acoustic feedback system, but on the stock speakers, there looks to be a microphone screwed onto the speaker. I just took that off and mounted it back onto my 6X9's that i bought, just like the stock ones were.
I wouldnt splice any of the wires, cuz i didnt need to.
Advice?
Have the right tools, I suggest a Socket wrench and a flat head screwdriver and some pliers. Thats all i remember.

Thanks for the tips. I've pushed and pulled in every possible direction, but I just can't seem to seperate the plug. Do I have to lift certain parts of the plastic or something?
BTW, I don't yet know if my new speakers even fit. Anyone else have Boston Acoustic RM9's installed? (or tried and failed?)
the speakers probably wont fit. They will fit into the well, but when u try to put the cover on, it probably wont. You might have to cut some parts from the cover. That clip should come apart. If it's attached to the speaker, try to slide it out. It should come out pretty easy. Use a flashlight
i don't think you want to use the acoustic feedback with those new speakers, i heard that the acoustic feedback is only good with stock speakers, and when you use it on different speakers, it isn't made to work with them, so it won't sound as good if you still leave it on with the new speakers, since its prolly tuned to use the stock speaker's frequency range and not the boston's range.
And of course Joon's very helpful advice. I took out the feedback system. Is there anyreason why you want to retain it? Are you keeping the stock head unit? bypassing AFBS system (5th gen)
Thanks everyone for the tips. Finally got that thing unbuckled. I actually haven't had any time to install it yet, but I hope to have it installed by the end of this week.
Which terminal on the speaker is positive (+) and which is negative (-). On my speakers, the terminal are of different sizes. One is wider than the other.
Does the polarity matter? I'm assuming that it doesn't, but I should be consistent with the wiring on both speakers.
Thanks for all the help!

Oh, BTW, the speakers seemed to fit just fine, except the trunk spring. I pulled and bent them a bit and it seems to be fine now. Gosh, I can't wait to here how it sounds!
I just noticed that I'm not listed as the original poster. OMEGA023 is showing up. This is DaaamnGina BTW.
I think it was caused from when I first joined this message board. I had login problems. It seems to have cleared up now as I am able to sign in and out without getting an error.
