Lookin to get speakers for the rear deck

I'm lookin for a new pair of speakers to run in the back. I have stock speakers up front but I'm not worried about those.

I had dual sub system a while back but then I got tired of it and sold the speakers. I still have the amp however....it's a 600w Kenwood.
All I'm looking for is a bit more bass in the back. I don't want a sub. The rear speakers are set to a low pass frequency right now and sound decent for what I want.

I'd like to use the amp I have to power some aftermarket 6.5" speakers. I just need a bit more bass when I turn up the volume instead of the speakers just distorting. Any good 6.5" speakers out there that run at about 100 rms that you guys could recommend? I've been looking at JL and MB Quart as of now.

JL and MBQ have very distinct and different sounds, go listen to them before you buy to make sure you pick the one you like best. If you can find a shop that sells both, bring your favorite CD and listen to them side-by-side.

Most speakers from quality manufacturers like those two will handle 100W. Are you sure your 600W amp only puts out 100W rms @ 4 ohms per channel?

I have MB Quart Premiums. I love them. Unlike any other speakers i have had before they seem to be able to accurately reproduce bass across the board. Every different type of music sounds great through them. I have used these speakers on both kicker and kenwood amps, and i have to say the amp does make a huge difference. I have them running on a kenwood exceleon 520 right now. Used to be powered by a kicker sx900.4. Kicker amp really brought these speakers to life. I was wondering though. You say you want some 6.5" speakers, however the 5th gen takes 6x9's, so i am goin to assume you are in a 4g prelude. Take this into consideration when you purchase new rear speakers. You are extremely limited to what will fit the application. The torsion bars in the trunk lie directly below your speakers. You should look for something with a small powerful neodynium magnet. If you are only looking for bass then i would highly reccomend the MB Premium Add-A-Woofer kit. The kit includes 2-6.5" Mid-Bass drivers, and the appropriate crossover to give you only mid-bass. This will save you quite a bit of $ on the Tweeters and crossovers you will not need anyways. Additionally these will fit! Good luck with your speaker search, hope i have helped.

^^thanx man....really did help...thanx for the info. Oh...yeah I'm in a 4g.

mciampag: Yeah....normal power for the sub is rated at 100w x 2 @ 4ohms. I think it's something like 600w x 1 max. power output @ 4 ohms bridged.

The biggest difference between the JLs and MBs is in the tweeter. One is metallic, the other is a soft dome (silk). Metallic tweets tend to sound brighter (or harsher), while silk domes tend to be warmer (or lack detail). The adjective used tends to depend on your personal preference, that's why I urge you to listen to them in person.

Unless you take the above suggestion and just buy the woofer.

And you're only limited by your skills and creativity. The torsion bars can be avoided very easily by making simple spacers to allow for deeper speakers.
