JL Audio speakers popping

I have two JL Audio W3v2 tens mounted in a 2.2 cf ported enclosure on a Sony 1200 watt amp. I got some dimensions from a local installer, but i think they're off a little on the port size. Also the box is not divided into two separate chambers; it seems as though the speakers are "fighting" each other for air whenever you listen to them with the trunk open. It sounds great inside the car, but i can hear one of the speakers popping when i turn the volume up loud, but only from the open trunk area. Only one pops, not both...is this a bad speaker or what?? help needed, thanks

Well my friend has the JL 12W0 and they both popped and stuff so he sent em into JL and he got 2 new ones. They are doing the same thing so I'm thinking its his box. He built it himself so its probably off. Might be the same with you. I have the 12W0 also but mine doesnt do it. I built my own box.

Yea i think it is the box because when i cover up the port, the right speaker stops popping...maybe i should just put some polyfill in it??

poly fill might help, but i would suggest redoing the box. JLs are pretty nice subs...ever consider a sealed enclosure with that kind of power?

that would give you better sound quality and you would have more room for error in the box design.

My sub did this but it was because of the way the crossover was set up. You might want to try playing with the settings as well.

The amp is a Sony 1200 watt (only about 600 rms bridged at 2 ohms mono) two channel amp bridged to two ohms mono.
