How To Setup Dual Voice Coil?

OK, I have 2 Pioneer TS-W304DVC 12" Dual Voice Coil Subwoofers. I heard that having DVC subs makes for a different way to set them up. Here are some specs on the subs...:

12" Foamed IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) Rigilite Composite Cone Woofer
Dual-Layer Urethane Surround
Direct Bobbin Mounted VCCS (Voice Coil Cooling System)
Conex Damper with Damper Ring
Lead Wires Integrated into Damper for High Reliability and Improved Power Transfer
Projected Pole Yoke with Vented Pole
High-Energy Ferrite Magnet with Bumped Back Plate
Low-Q Design for use in Small Sealed Box (1.2 cubic foot recommended)
Dual Voice Coil (2x4ohm) Design for Increased System Flexibility
600 Watts Max Music Power
300 Watts Nominal Power Handling
Frequency Response: 18-2,000Hz
Sensitivity (Efficiency): 89dB (1W/1m)
2ohm or 8ohm Rated

Now here is the question...what way should I set this up with an amp. How many channels, how many watts per channel, etc....basically if someone could find me the best amp to power these subs for less than $250 I would be very happy!!

Essentially, you want to an amp capable of about 600x1 wrms @ 4 ohms (You could also use a 2 channel amp and bridge it, but 2 ch amps that large are harder to come by). This will give each of your subs about 300 wrms each. You will want to connect the voice coils on each speaker in series, and then wire the 2 speakers in parallel:

You can definitley pick up a JBL 1200.1 for under $250, which are actaully decent amps for the money. There are probably a lot more amps that fall in this range as well, but I'll let you do some reseearch on your own.

Hey...I was looking at sounddomain.com and all the amps that were 600x1 @4 ohms were over $500....that JBL 1200.1 is $500. I didnt see any that even came close to those specs for $250...not even close!! Are you sure that is what I want? Can you link me somewhere cause I am confused now!

Yea, that JBL 1200.1 has the perfect specs but it is so damn ugly!!!
I may have to go with it anyway though

Who else makes an amp that pushes around 600 watts x 1 @ 4ohms???

I was thinking...I dont want my system too loud, nor do I want to blow out the subs....what if I used an amp with less wattage....like 400watts x 1 @4ohm or something close to that? Would this be ok?

Less than optimal, but yes. . .it would still work. The planet audio one I posted a link to is a pretty good buy, and looks decent.

I am probably gonna go with the JBL 1200.1 (even though it is ugly)

Thanks for all your help and putting up with my clueless questions...I got a couple more if you dont mind

#1...I will be running the setup said above, and I have AEM pullies, should I get a capacitor? If so, what do I want, .5 farad, 1 farad, what?

#2...what wiring kit should I get to wire EVERYTHING (2 voice coils in series, 2 subs in parallel, amp, and capacitor (if needed)??? Do any kits come with everything I need, or will I have to buy some stuff seperate?

EDIT***I just noticed this paragraph about the subs...does this change anything?:

The 12" W304DVC features a dual voice coil design, giving you another system design option, and is 2-ohm rated in parallel and 8-ohm rated if wired in series.

No, nothing changes. You will have the speakers wired in series (so each presents an 8 ohm load), and then the speakers wired in parallel (presenting an overal load of 4 ohms to the amp).

I would hold off on the capacitor. Once you have everything installed, if you are having problems with dimming headlights and such, I would look into an upgraded alternator.

My personal favorite for wiring kits in Knuconcepts, they have quality products, great service, and nice prices. It's not the most flashy stuff on the market, but it gets the job done. I would go with a 4 ga amp instalation kit. They also usually have ebay auctions.

That kit should have pretty much everything you need. Are you only going to be running the sub amp (no other amps)?

Yep, just running the amp for the subs (and obviously the HU built-in amp)...I went to that link....$30 is really cheap!! The kits at Best Buy were like $100...screwe that!!

Thanks again for all your help!

In that kit you recommended to me, do you then cut the Blue And Silver (4 gauge power and ground) wires to the desired length, and then use those "O" type connectors to attach to the positive battery terminal, and then the desired grounding point?

Also, would you recommend these for better performance and that added looks factor?
