How did you guys run your stereo wires???

Sup guys?? I am installing my stereo and I was wondering how you guys ran the RCA wires, power wire, and remote lead wire to the truck???
If you ran it under the arm rest how did you remove the arm rest to get the wires under it???

YOur promptness to this question is GREATLY appreciated. Tomorrow morning I am gonna try to finish the install.

the guys who did the original install a year ago ran the power cable througha hole they drilled in the firewall next to the master cylinder (nearly puncturing it too, grr)

then down the left of the car under the carpet (where the trunk open latch is) then under the rear seats, then the trunk.

im not sure about the RCA and turn on cables... i think those were also run near the power cable, but not touching it.

There is a large gromett on the firewall below the fusebox. . .pull the fusebox out and you can see it.

I ran my power wire up the pass. side of the car. I ran everything else (RCA, remote, speaker wires) straight back under the console. I have the 1992 console that runs the full length of the car, so it was really easy.

Thanks guys for your response. This board so far is the best I have come across. I REALLY appreciate it.

Red, how did you take out the center console to run the wires??? Can you give me directions?? Is it difficult to get the center console out???

I want to do this install as professional as possible so I want the wires running nicely under the console and carpet. I am the kind who likes to do it right the first time.

Thanks again guys.

Which console do you have? I never fully removed mine. . .I just tokk out the "bin" thingy between the back seats and fished the wires up the passenger side of the console where the Ebrake is. I ran all my RCA's, Remoe, and speaker wires inside one piece of wire loom, so it was pretty easy.

Ohhhh, ok. So I just remove the screw inside the "bin thingy"??? I would like to take the WHOLE thing out so i can vacuum under there and make sure all the wires are running under there nicely. Oh well, I will try, if not I will do that you recommend.
Thanks for the help.

If you think of anything else you want to share about the install process please do so.

Yeah. . .there are like 8 or so screws that secure the "bin" underneath the lid. There is a metal bracket in there for support. . .watch out, mine had some sharp edges. I wouldnt even attempt removing the entire console. I tried once and gave up. It was like trying to do one of those brain teezer puzzels where you get the ring off the horseshoe. . .there just isn't enough room to manuever anything (yourself included) unless you remove the front seats. Removing just the bin should give you an easy way to feed wires back and forth. I removed all the screws on the passenger side of the console (all of them. . .back to front). I could then push my wires up along the side from the bottom edge. Get the wires above the screw holes in the console, and when you reinstall the screws, they will act like "stops" and prevent the wires from falling back down. Hope that made sense.

How much crap gets spilled in your back seats that you need to vaccum?

Gotcha!!!
I didn't spill anything. i am just anal like that. Whenever I take my car apart, no matter what it is, I clean EVERYTHING. I even Armoralled the inside of the plastic pieces I took off to get to the radio.
It just makes me feel better knowing that it is clean under there.

Thanks for the help. I will get to work early in the morning. I took the day off.

I have installed my wires twice and the first time i made the mistake of running the power wire next to the RCA cables. The second time i put the 8ga. power wire in drilled through the firewall next to the master cyclinder above the clutch pedal and ran it straight to the back under the center console...so far so good...looks really clean. Good luck the firewalls a pain!

I ran the power under the carpet drivers side and RCA/speaker under the carpet passeger side. I felt it was easier than removing the entire console as I had already done that twice. Once when installing the leather. And twice when removing the leather to dye my carpets
