Higher amp alternator?

Just wondering who has changed their alternator to a higher amp. And where did you get them from? My head lights dim when the bass hits hard.

I'd recommend having a local shop re-wind your alt for you. Many times it's cheaper or equal to buying from one of the major companies like Ohio or Stinger, etc. Plus it's nice to have a local shop to go to in case anything goes wrong.

Re-wind? That would make the alt. have more amps? Or does it just make it like new again?

goes both ways... alternator makes juice by magnets spinning inside of wound wire... fairly simple design, actually... by rewinding, you sometimes get new magnets, but for the most part, it's simply adjusting the tightness of the wind, or the spacing/number of magnets to adjust the ouput...

Rewinding just make the alt new again. You will not get more amps out of it. Have you done the 'big 3' upgrade yet? Thats a good place to start then from there go amp shopping. I dont know how to spell it but I think its iraggi alts. Google it or something, the guy makes custom alts.

Dom does make custom alts, but so do a lot of other people/companies. (who are cheaper and have better feedback) Like I said, shop around and don't forget about your local shops.

Do we have the option of bolting on a stock alternator from say an Acura, which may have more amps? I know a lot of the mk2 Supra guys bolt on a mk3 Supra alternatore which has ~40 more amps. Is that sorta thing possible with the Preludes?

i have the same problem. and then i found a really informative guy named Nathan that works for ExcessiveAmperage.com , he is building me a 180amp alt. that i should get by the end of this week. check out his website:
Excessive Amperage

but i also will be putting my alt that i'm replacing up for sale. which is a 120amp alt. that i purchased from AES electric systems, an alternator company located here in dallas, tx. its a direct fit.
