ok so i've hooked up all my speakers but now theres no constant power to plug my yellow cable into. theres only an ignition switched cable and i dont feel like running a cord to my battery. where does everyone else get their power from? I've tested every cable from that stock of radio cables and there all dead when the car is turned off and theres only 1 that turns live when the ingition is on, so there must be a live wire near by that i can feed off of... maybe the four ways if the relay box isnt interfearing? and i have read up online and it sais its the white wire with the blue stripe but theres no such wire back there at all.
There should be a power wire in the harness already. I think it's yellow...it's been awhile since I have played with those wires though, I remember it being a heavier gauge than the other wires as well. The wire that is live with the ignition on (it should be blue) is the turn-on lead. All that does it turn the radio on and off, not supply power.
ya i kow what wires are what on the harness but in the stack of wires that are part of the car there are no constant power anywhere. theres only power to ONE of the cables when the ignition is on.
His right the ignition only turns it on. Did you try to run it off the cable that already comes from the battery? This wouldn't be a good idea if you have amplifer because it to would be on when your stereo is on. Unless you have a capacitator, then it would draw power from the capacitator not entirely your battery.

Reason: mistake

What the hell are you talking about?
OP, if you still haven't found a live power wire just run a new one from the battery or an empty terminal on the fuse box if you want it to look stock. There should be a power source that is pretty easy to find in the factory harness, but if you can't find it just run a new one through the firewall grommet.
ok i found a live terminal in the fuse box under the dash, and u just used a female connector and pretty much just plugged it onto the terminal and ran my wire from there to my deck. But i've been reading around and the fog lights im getting are supposed to plug into the terminal aswell so maybe ill have to run a new wire from the battery itself to the stereo. It took me forever to find a place through the firewall for my amp cord but now i have that through this one should be a lot easier. I found it easiest to go through the gormet behind the fuse box (easily undone by one bolt and slid off a track) and fed in behind the glove box, which i then just routed under the carpet by the door sill.
Unless someone hacked up your OEM harness there is a constant there. Another reason why it might not be getting power is a fuse might be out. But otherwise it's there. Are you using an aftermarket radio harness between the radio and the OEM harness? The colors should match up. Red to red and yellow to yellow. Those are the two power sources. One is to the ignition the other is to the battery.

no i just cut the wires myself and hooked them up accordingly to the diagrams i've found in the service manual. and all the wires look like they havnt been tampered with looks completly all factory done, and there all the same gauge, i dunno if the power is supposed to be a bigger gauge but ive checked all my fuses and there all fine... but just to be sure the only fuse for the radio is under the hood right? i didnt see any fuse for the stereo under the dash.
You just made things a lot harder for yourself. If the oem radio was working before you took it out, the constant is there. The OEM radio has a constant going to it to keep memory otherwise every time you turned the car off it would lose all the settings and ask you for the security code every time you started the car and turned the radio on. Get a voltage probe or a multimeter. Ground one side and touch the wires. One will show 12v on it. If you spent ~$10 you could have bought a harness and saved yourself all this time and problems.
I'm having a problem as well, I hooked up all the necessary wires, the HU turned on for a brief 15 seconds, then turned off. After that we couldn't get it back on, I also noticed that the car's clock would not turn on, is it possible that I blew a fuse? if so which one would it be?
p.s I did the wires one by one, and connected it to the new harness, since the old aftermarket adapter would not fit. :c

ya, i know i kept blowing the same fuse under the hood, and everything is grounded so i dont know whats going on, but when it goes, u cant see the clock, and u cant lock the doors electronicly unless the actual car is turned on

if your clock/radio fuse has been blowing, make sure that your constant isn't touching any other wires, use electric tape to prevent it. And before you try to start your car next time, make sure that no wires are touching except for the correct ones that are supposed to be soldered/tied up.
