Help !

A few week ago I had a friend install a deck (Alpine 9856) for me. He crimped off alot of stuff from the power harness (almost everything) but couldn't get it to work. I had to bring it to a pro in order to get it working. The deck work fine but the radio get so much static (when the car moving) that it impossible too listen to (never was the case with the OEM deck). I was wondering if my friend crimping mess up the radio ?

Remove it, and take it to a GOOD shop with that warranties their work (like Best Buy ) and pay them the $55 to get it installed. That way if there's any other problems, you can always take it back to them. Make sure they bypass the AFBS if your friend didn't do so already. They might charge you more to bypass this. I understand it can be done w/o cutting wires if you use the Daewoo harness 'DO1B'.

An hour of diagnostic/repair work at a good 12v shop will cost you around $75. You might only need 1/2 hour of work to fix it, but you don't know. I'd pay the $55 and just get it done.

Why do I have a feeling that your friend just cut the factory harness off and went to town. Do you have amplifiers. Where in the bay are you?

Crimping the wires would not cause any damage. Crimping the wrong wires together would. I don't see how he could have wired up the radio with a harness and not have been able to get it to turn on, unless he wired it wrong. (or possibly there was just a blown fuse that you guys overlooked) Now back to the noise, does it only happen with the FM radio, or does it also have it when you play a cd?
