I installed an amp in my car the other day for my interior speakers. When you have the volume down real low you can hear alternator/engine noise distortion in the speakers. I tried finding a better ground and that didn't work. I also upgraded my RCA cables. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the noise? Do they make any kind of noise filter?

noise filters are ca ca.. first off make sure your deck is grounded nicely.. take a small wire and run it from the metal frame somehwere and touch it on the chassis of th deck.. see if thenoise goes away.. if not make sure the rca cables are away from most wires in the car and for your ground remove paint from a small spot on the floor somewhere and screw your amps ground wire into the center of it.. try that

make sure the power and signal wires are on opposite sides of the car and that the power wire goes down the same side as the batt is on without crossing over the motor.keep it away from anything elctronic if at all possible.what kind of stuff is it?some cheap stuff you will never get rid of it.

The head unit is a Sony ES C780 CD-player. The amp is a Jensen XA6040-XL. I only have the amp at about half gain. The power wire comes into the car on the same side as the battery then goes across the car along the floor at the front of the car to the opposite side. The RCAs are going down the center of the car. I tried changing my ground and it didn't get any better, but when I put in the better RCAs it actually got louder. Thanks for any help

There isn't a wire inside of my RCAs but I did try grounding the head unit where the amp is grounded with another wire. Any other ideas? Thanks

well if none of those worked.. then you have an internal problem.. start the car and turn it on and leave the rca cables plugge din and move the rca cables around WHILE in the terminal as in push up anddown side to sid e alittle.. it the noise stops even for a secon that means your amp has bad grounds.. ive seen it in many amps.. its usally the deck or the amp which has a bad ground.. since you tried grounding the deck and that didnt work just play with the rca wires and see if that does it.. **** while your at it try putting a small wire ont he chassis of the amp and see what that does..

excludinging the wire, the week link in your system is obviously the jensen amp. for best results run the power wire down the same side of the car as the battery is on, cross at the rear of the car, and run the rcas down the opposite side of the car keeping the rca and power wire as far apart as you can. keep your grounds as short as possible. find a peice of metal, sand off the paint to metal not primer and make a ground. Do not use a factory bolt as a ground. if all else fails try and borrow a better amp from a friend and see if the noise goes away.

i'll try that this afternoon. why is using a factory bolt not a good idea for the ground?

unless it is a factory ground, they usually have paint, primer, grease, or some form of goo in them so you do not get a good ground.
