ed12K has arrived! Installed w/ photos!

I couldn't believe it, I got out of bed around noon (as usual) walked upstairs and guess what I see? My ed12K had arrived! I couldn't believe it, I ordered the sub on sunday, they didn't even finish moving into their new facility until tuesday, and the card inside the box said my sub was tested and verified by an ed technician on wednesday! Talk about turnaround time, Elemental Designs should start a fast food chain!

As I promised earlier, I have photos and initial impressions ready for you

The sub is SO CLEAN! What used to sound like a single, long bass note (with my Xtant sub) is now clearly heard and felt as individual sound waves of different frequencies. I have heard this song on multiple systems and the ed12k is the first woofer to EVER reproduce each individual bass note! I'm sorry that I don't know the proper terminology for describing this sub, but it simply reproduces your music exactly the way it was ment to sound. The SPL is unbelievable too, this is the first time my dad has ever come out of the house and told me I was shaking things on the wall! I have to break the sub in for a week before I can really pound it, but for only 200 watts RMS it produces all the SPL I can handle!

Here are some photos of the e12k, along with a few other photos of my neon lights, Skunk2 knob/Civic Type R boot, front components, and amplifier. Enjoy

e12k photos

Glad to hear you like it!

I'd be veeeeerrrryyy careful with that Kicker grill. Since the sub has a flat cone (and not an inverted one like 95% of subs of the market), the grill will might get dangerously close to the cone.

The grill is currently uninstalled

I mounted it with some spacers and managed to get 3/8" of clearance, do you think that will be enough? I haven't seen that excursion yet, so I think tomorrow I might put the grill back on. Without the spacers it would definately contact the woofer. I appreciate the concern though, I would be a bad deal to ruin my K!

After talking with Ben (owner of ED), he said the IDQ and K series are pretty evenly matched. The IDQ's can be used in slightly smaller sealed boxes, and might have a slight edge in SQ, but both are nice for the price.

With shipping it was $150 exactly.

I had the Xtant A212, it was a 12" 2 ohm sub. It had a round, black cone with 4 raised ribs on it's surface around the dustcap. It was a great sub until I got the K, now I can honestly say the K is the best sub I've ever heard.

Update- just thought I'd mention that the sub seems even better now since it's had some use. The bass seems to be hitting stronger/deeper. I haven't listened enough to consider it "broken in" yet though, but I was pleasantly surprised that I could notice a difference!

I heard the same thing with my e10o. I've had it playing for about a week now, including a trip to the beach that's 3 hrs one-way. It's really starting to come alive now. If it stays where it's at now, I'll be very, very happy. If it continues to improve over the next week or so, I'll be very, very impressed.

Why does a sub need to be broken in?? And how does a sub get broken in?

Im planning on getting the e12A.22 , from hearing how good the k series is the A series should be unbelievable!!

Some subs (i.e. Elemental Designs) need to be broken in before sounding their best. The reason has to do with a stiff suspension/surround that needs to relax a tad, through normal use. You break your sub in by taking it relatively easy for a week or so. Don't bring it to an SPL competition right out of the box You should be able to hear the sound change slightly, it'll probably get a bit louder by the end of the first week, maybe a little tighter, and just plain sound better.
