I was wondering if anyone has any experience with earthquake or their amps? Becuase I don't want to dive in blind and find them to be just a cheap knockoff. thanks.

I just want to say, right off the bat, that NO AMP puts out the power it is RATED at. So if it says on the box 2000watt max(max means maximum PEAK)... expect less. Maybe 1600 peak... and 1400 constant(RMS).. my OTHER best advice.... BUY OVERPOWERED!!! When I say that, I do NOT mean USE all the power.. do NOT. buy what your speakers can handle RMS(<---very important)... your speaker may say they can take 1000watts each, but CONSTANT is different.. if you have 2 speakers that can handle 500 watts each RMS, buy an amp that can put out more than that RMS, maybe 1200 watts RMS.
Rule of thumb: If it starts sounding sloppy your amp is spiking and overpowering the sub if this happens just turn the gain down until it stops
The secret to good quality bump is to get an amp that puts out more than you need, and use less of the power.. it is less likely to distort OR overheat. Also.. the subs are the secret.. look at their efficiency.. around 90% is good, higher is better, lower is worse.. the more efficient your subs are, the less POWER they need to make sound! My subs, with a 93% efficiency with 800 watts rms for 2 subs will be LOUDER than 2 subs with only 87% and DOUBLE the wattage. I always use amps that put out about 800-1kwatts rms.. and have impressed MANY avid sound enthusiasts.
I live in Daytona, and many may not know, but we have the spring break nationals here, a very competitive and big stereo contest, every year.. and I have seen it all.. and maybe because of this comp., the stereo shops here carried a variety of equipment, and I have asked about it all.
I have not OWNED an Earthquake amp myself.. My personal choice is to go to best buy or circuit city, which usually carries quality products, and buy there with a WARRANTY.. if, of course, I really am going to use the full power of the amp. I have seen them, they perform as well as many other brands. There are many other branks i would recommend before i would say earthquake.. but that is NOT because they are bad.
Earthquake is not a BAD brand, nor a CHEAP brand, though, in my opinion, the last few years, they have become lesser known.. My advice with ALL amps and speakers.. do not buy from an OFF brand, and you should be ok. If you know the model# of the one you are looking for, google it, and find some reviews.. if the majority are happy, then go for it.
Do not buy pyramid. Do not buy sony. Avoid crunch. There are alot of brands to avoid... and the rest are more or less ok. If I remember correctly, many earthquakes need extra cooling... had to do with their design, but maybe more recent years they fixed this, I am not sure.
I could go on and on.. I don't know if you are using dual voice coil subs, what the RMS power of the subs is, the max doesnt matter.. ported or bandpass... I told you all I can without knowing more. Good luck.
