Do I *NEED* to run new speaker wire?

So, I am planning on installing a component set in my doors, and running about 55wrms to them.

When talking to a local installer, he said that I could use the STOCK wire becuase it should support up to +/- 100wrms no problem... then I could just splice into the stock wire on the inside of the cabin, by the kickpanels, and not have to run wire through to the doors.

Any insight on this?

it should be fine without the new wires, but run them if youre worried about it... wire is pretty cheap, and all you really need to get it through the door is a steady hand or a set of mechanical fingers

Well, the price of wire doesn't really matter... its just actually GETTING the wire through the door...

Anyone know the wire colors for each door (+ and -) ?

I've been installing stereos now for 3 years and to be out right honest the best and cheapest thing you can do when upgrading a stereo is upgrade the wiring. Your speakers will sound better guaranteed with a little larger wire than the factory stuff. Not only the size of the wire but the quality of the copper used in the wire is just as important. Resistance is never your friend in car audio, so the bigger the wire the less resistance you have and at that point you end up with a much clearer sound. And for a few more bucks of wire you will get every pennies worth out of your new head unit, amp or speakers.

I agree with GoBabyGo

I upgraded the wires and I could tell the difference. Good luck dealing with that molex plug though. You're gonna have to drill through it VERY CAREFULLY.

EXACTLY! Like I said before... its not me being CHEAP... i don't care if I'd have to spend a fistfull of cash to do it, its just the COMPLEXITY of the actual project... and the drilling of the plug...

I was just wondering if there was a way around it. :-\

I don't have a 5th gen but do you HAVE to drill that plug? In my car we just passed the wire beside the wires already there, couldn't you do the same thing a pass the wire beside the plug? It might not look as good but...

You just have to make sure that you dont pinch/crimp and wires when the door is closed. Definitly a good place for wire loom.
