do high-level -> RCA converters commute?

I've got a high-level to RCA converter that I used to generate output to an amp from my stock HU. However, I now have an aftermarket HU and another (used) amp on which the RCA inputs don't work. Can I use my converter in reverse? The used amp has high-level input which I know will work. Thanks

just use the high level inputs that the amp supplies

Okay, maybe a bit more detail needed. This second, defective amp (RCA inputs not working) is used to control my bass shakers. I've always wanted to have control over the gain from inside the cabin, but the amp is a cheap sony unit and won't support a remote. Before I got the new headunit, I tapped into the back speakers' signal and sent it to the high-level input on the amp.

Now that I have my new headunit hooked up, I've found that I can control the sub level from there. In order to do this though, I need to go through the RCA outputs on the back of the HU. What I'm wondering is: can I send the signal to the trunk via RCAs, and then slap in the converter to switch to high-level and then plug that into the amp? The reason I ask is because I've really only ever seen people go the other way (high level -> RCA) and I don't know if the electronics will do the reverse. Any insight? Much appreciated...
