Well, usually manufacturers will give you recomended box sizes and dimensions for enclosures. I'd get a hold of that first. Then for the basic box you'll need some MDF, some drywall screws, liquid nails (or wood glue), a jigsaw, a drill w/drill bit & phillips screw bit. There's other tools that you could use to make things easier & faster if you have them... circular saw & router. But some wood stores will go ahead and cut the wood for you, to your dimensions to make things easier/faster for you. I'll post a url or two for building a basic enclosure, in a bit.

Alright, until someone on here makes a how-to for this site, I'll have to use an article from another board. This is from team-integra.net, written by a former member of this site. (Yes, I've been on this board FOREVER ) It's a really good step by step, with a lot of pictures for you visual people.

Only thing that I would do different is how to carpet the box. Cutting the carpart on the edge of the box makes it peel and come off easy.

Hard to explain but you need to use a big enough sheet of carpet where you can fold it over the corners and edges. Then you make cuts on the sides of the box. Kind of tricky. If you look at most of the premade boxes the carpet isn't cut on the edges of the box.

I just finished building up my system from sort of scratch.... By the way it sounds great, pics will come pretty soon.

Anyway I also went through the dilema of building a box and I must say, it's well worth your time as it is much more rewarding than buying a std off-the-shelf box. I would tell you detailed instructions, but making a visit to sounddomain.com will give you all the advice and tutorials you need. Also do a search on crutchfield.com for ssub box fabrication and you'll find a great pictured tutorial.

The only difficulty in building a box is making the circular cuts. Since I am a ME graduate student I was able to use the university's machine shop---saying it's for research. If you don't have access to these types of stuff, goto Homedepot and "Borrow" their stuff. Clean it up, and return it.

good luck
