Bazooka tube in 5th gen?

I haven't done anything to my car since I got it a few years back, but I'm kinda wanting to get something in there now.

I wired up my old accord with a 12" MTX 3000, a Pioneer HU, and an amp that I can't remember right now so I can take care of the wiring, etc. I just need some help on picking out something that will get me a little more bass. I'm thinking a nice hard hitting 10" or possibly a bazooka tube to save on some space.

I'll probably settle for a basic HU, no navigation, DVD screen, etc., just regular old music, and will probably leave the factory speakers in there for now.

Any recommendations for a nice little setup? I would like to keep it under $700 or so. I do have a Spoon bar in the back so that was why I was leaning towards the tube.

Or try the Basslink. It's sealed, so it's not going to be uber loud, but it's nice, tight bass, and it does pretty good for its size. It won't be sufficient for rap, but rock/country/pop it'll be just fine.

Rap/RB probably makes up about 70% of my listening. What would be the next step up, two 10"s?

I'd go for a 12" sub. My two 10" alpine type E subs were loud with 350w rms, but didn't hit as deep as I'd like for rap (I don't listen to much of it though). If I were you I'd go with one 12" sub, although that limits your mounting options. The 12" sub will give you the kind of frequency range you want.

Where in Ohio do you live? I am in SE Michigan, 30 minutes North of Ann Arbor I know a guy that can fabricate a fiberglass box for you. He does quality work.

I figure I probably have about 10"-12" space to work with under the Spoon bar. Where would a 12" go? I'm near Cleveland, your not too far away.

would you want to do a sub box like 92s? or somethign to fit behind or under the spoon bar? Fiberglass (like 92s) or MDF (under/behind) spoon bar. Do you have a fifth gen? I can have him take a look at mine if so; we would need some measurements so we knew where the spoon bar was in relation from the trunk floor and seat back.

This would be for a 5th gen. 92s setup is what I would have to go with if I want a 12. Any idea on a ballpark price for that setup?

Currently I'm thinking I will go with a 10" tube pushed by a nice amp. I can get a 10" tube with DVC, 200w, 8ohms for about $100. If I run that in parallel and get a nice 200x2 amp at 4 ohms I should be getting the full power correct?

If that bazooka tube is rated for 200W rms @8ohms, the amp is 200W x 2 @ 4ohm per channel, and the amp is bridgeable, then you would be looking at (at most) 400W rms x1 @ 4ohm. you're looking at 200W rms x 1 @8 ohms. This is assuming we are talking about RMS figures here. But yes, the numbers work out right.

I was under the impression bass tubes pretty much sucked

1 12 will hit lower, as mentioned above. 1 10 would be good if you listened to more dance/trance/pop

They do suck when compared to a 12 getting fed by a good amp.
But the bass will shakes your buttplug off if directly compared to a completely stock system. So it's all subjective so the individual's needs and what he/she thinks is 'good enough bass'.

Ok, what about a 12" bass tube? I see they have one on Crutchfield that looks like a new release. Actually, I don't think a 12" tube would fit under my spoon bar either.

What does a custom box run these days?
