BASS - need suggestions. Salvage parts or dump it all.

Im very disaapointed in the recent death of my Audiobaun Amplified Tube... it was a 8" speaker btw, so should I salvage what I can:

- cut off all connections to the POS amp in the tube, and fire it up to a mono sub amp?

I dont know the specs of just the speaker.. so I dont know if its 4ohm or 8 ohm or hell even 2 ohm?

Anyone familiar with Audiobahn products?

Audiobahn ATB8AT
8" woofer in cylindrical enclosure (with rear firing tuned port)
ยป built-in amplifier: 100 watts RMS (speaker- and line-level inputs)
ยป variable low pass filter (40-250 Hz at 18 dB/octave)
ยป adjustable bass boost (0-18 dB) with wired remote control
ยป includes complete installation kit (power cable with fuse and ring terminal, ground wire with ring terminal, 18-gauge remote turn-on wire)
ยป bumped back plate
ยป extended and vented pole piece
ยป frequency response 40-250 Hz
ยป gold-plated 5-way binding posts
ยป 9-1/2"W x 22-5/8"L x 9-3/8"H

you could probably power it with an amp if you were happy with the bass out of it
I would go for a 10" in a box and seperate amp if you ahd the extra money to spend

^^ I agree. I would try something new like a 10" sub on a tuned ported box(not the ones you buy of the shelf in best buy). There should be hundreds of subs out there for you to choose from depending on your budget. Don't just go with mainstream brands like Alpine, JL, Kicker, RF for they will kill your pockets - Look into other brands that perform better for your money.

The seperate gain controller is jacked up.. its the only thing I can think of.

So I opened it up, and cut the speaker wire from the speaker and fed it through the open port ( yes its ghetto.)

Im going to get a cheap 100 watt mono amp for it, though I dont know if this speaker is 4ohm, 8ohm, or even 2 ohm... so I hope can avoid overheating a mono amp.
Is there any way I can tell just by looking?

I dont think I'll ever buy a "amplified" Tube again.

you can take a multimeter and set it to ohms and put one side to each connector and it will tell you what ohm the speaker is
