well i can't help you out on much of your questions, but.... i (a long time ago) installed a alpine head unit with the factory speakers and it sounded much better than the factory head unit. after that i went wild and replaced everything. LOL!
i guess leaving the rear speakers is the best bet, alot of ppl seem to agree on that from looking at other Forums plus i will end up leaving the feedback system in place
i like the 12 in my mazda right now, but its kinda big! so i have to play around with the trunk options
what about deck installation? i've looked at double dins and they are pretty ugly with the lower pocket being really small! i've read some people had really ****ty instals do i get a single din and attach the pocket? or is it possible to install a deck into the stock harware/console?

The factory deck opening is double din. When you install a double din head unit, there is no pocket.
