alternator whine and battery relocation

hi all,
i relocated my battery to the boot, and now when i drive with my headlights on, i have a whine-like hum coming through the speakers, even when the headunit is off.
What do i do?
Its kinda annoying and i don't like it but i read another thread about using a filter, but they decrease sound levels?
Could it be the ground connection?
Should i use a ground loop isolator instead? someone suggested on of theose as well.

Thanks heaps,
Stevo

those ground loop isolators dont work very well. id try finding another place to ground the battery first.

well, where in the boot could i ground it that is different to where it is already? its on the boot floor, and the amp is on the other side of the boot, grounded on the floor as welll.

Could the power cable be introducing a current into the speaker cables? should i reroute the speaker cables?

im not really sure what you mean by boot, but you should make sure the battery is grounded at a spot where it gets a big chunk of the metal.
and yes, the power wire can induce a signal in the speakers if the wires or rca cables are routed next to it. always route on the opposite side of the car.

OK try this...
ive been running this setup in my 5th gen, with no noise probs at all...
I kept my battery in the front, and ran a 4 AWG power wire to the back along the passenger's side, to the amps in the boot (lol)
then i ran both the RCAs and the remote lead along the driver's side of the car from the deck, to the amps
when grounding the amps, you also wanna make sure that its connected to a paint-free surface (there was an un-tapped hole already in the chassis, i just stripped the paint around it with an xacto by an inch or so, and used a large enough screw to hold the ground in place)
hope that helps ya...high quality RCAs might do the trick too...

I had an MTX amplifier that did that before. I got rid of it, and the alternator whine disappeared with it. Thankfully - I'll never buy an MTX product ever again.

Thanks for the help guys.
I found out the rca's from the head unit to the amp are running down the left side, and the power cable is running down the right hand side.
I can't leave my battery in the front cuz i needed room for an intake.

I will look at the grounding for the amp..... the car audio guy said that since both amp and battery are in the boot/trunk (!) that i should run the amps ground directly to the negative battery terminal...??? i thought that was bad...

Well, get back to me on this grounding issue...

Cheers,
Stevo.
