Aftermarket CD player harness

I just got a 5th get and wanted to change the CD player out for the HU and wanted to know if there were plug n play harnesses so that I dont have to do any splicing of wires. I had a 98 civic before and was able to get a plug n play one that hooked up to the stock and HU as well and did not have to splice anything. Just wondering if anyone had used on of these on the prelude or do they only come w/the harness where you are going to have to splice up the wires even w/the harness. Thanks guys. HOpefully i don't run into any problems w the rear speakers after doing this lol like a lot of people were running into.

I got a plug and play harness at Circuit City...it's actually 2 harnesses. One plugs into the 5th gen's harness and the other one plugs into my Panasonic head unit. The 2 plug together and viola! No splicing, crimping or soldering required. I think they were made by Metra. They are pricey though...probably about $20 each, so $40 total.

You will run into problems if you change the rear speakers. You have to bypass the AFBS unit by cutting the correct wires BEFORE the AFBS unit and connecting them to your speakers. However, I've read somewhere that a Daihatsu connector will plug into the 5th gen's rear speaker harness allowing you to just add the wires/connectors you need for the rear speakers and not have to splice anything. The stock rear speakers are rated at 2 ohms I believe and are run in mono through the AFBS. Typical aftermarket speakers are rated at 4 ohms, so you should NOT use the AFBS with aftermarket speakers.

Yes, if you feel like spending extra money, you can use the two piece harness that Circuit City uses. Or, if you want to save $20, you can buy the adapter for the oem harness. All you do is match up the colors on that harness to the ones that came with the deck & connect. You can use crimp caps, butt connectors, or solder to connect the two harnesses together, but there is no splicing into the factory harness.

Yeah, that's what I did with my previous stereo...I got the adapter for the oem harness from Crutchfield and soldered it to the harness that came with the head unit. Then for my next stereo and car, I got lazy and just bought the Circuit City harnesses so I could get everything wired up that night. =)
