accessing head unit for 5th gen...

I need to take out the dealer installed tape deck that is sitting under the factory CD player, but I haven't had the chance to open up a 5th gen b4. I've swapped out head units on 4th gens and they are the easiest to swap out of all the Hondas I've worked with. Is the 5th gen easier or harder to work with when pulling out the head unit in relation to the 4th gen?

Anyone got the little storage "bin" under their head unit for a 5th gen that they'd like to sell me?

go to the classified section and post im sure you will find people willing to sell you the empty bin... especially those people who installed their AFC in that spot...

Re: accessing head unit for 5th gen...

I never had a 4th gen, but I just replaced my head unit a couple weeks ago.

Pop the plastic cover off with a flat-head screwdriver--there are about a half-dozen snap-in tabs, so be careful. Then just unbolt or unscrew everything. The whole unit slides out. There are brackets attaching the cassette deck to the HU. About 4 screws on each side--save them.

After taking it apart, it looked to me like the original bin was broken off so that the cassette deck would fit in there. It was a dual-purpose bin/bracket. I bought a new head unit from Crutchfield and they gave me a replacement, but it's not as big as the Honda bin. You can probably just buy one from them if you're desperate to cover the hole.

Here's the pic:

edit: sorry the pic doesn't display--cut and paste the address and you should be able to see it. DAMN YOU WEBSH1TS!!!

once you have the front panel off, you'll KNOW what to do. it's THAT easy, trust me.

as for the pocket below... i have one from crutchfield lying around. it's just too bad you're in chicago, or you could've came and picked it up.
