http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

This site has a great comparison of almost every different sound deadener. It should answer your dynamat vs fatmat Q.

Careful about getting fatmat especially in places with hot summers. That stuff might turn into liquid goo after some time.

Regardless, I'm sure you can find a speaker in your price range (whatever it is) that will fit in nicely.

A 5.25 might be too small and will lack mid-bass. Don't rely on your sub for mid-bass, it's best to get that from your fronts.

so its bad that i lowered the bass all the way down to -10 on my cd player on my front/rear speakers and rely only on my sub? hehe, i guess i'll bring it back to 0? thanks. (ranges from -10 to 10).

well I am in Jersey and my fatmat is exactly the same as when I installed it over a year ago. we generally do not get over 105 here in the summer and my car is parked in the sun all day at work...but mine is CBM , a black car would be hotter. I have used dynamat in the past, although the old regular stuff, and have to say personally I do not think it was significantly better than the fatmat I have now aurally...although I am about 10 years older now and definitely do not hear as well as I used to...what? what? I still have alot of it left and I am in the process of building a custom sub box for my JL AUDIO 10w6 that will fit between the back of the rear seat and in front of the rear strut bar so that I can at least have some trunk space. my current box will be available when I am done. I plan on fatmatting the interior of my new box.

exactly.

I've got the pioneer 7800mp, and I use a frequency cutoff to all my speakers. But on my doors speakers its the least amount.

yeah I was thinking about mounting an old but in perfect shape JL AUDIO 8" sub that I have between the rear seat and crossing over only midbass to it. any suggestions or comments on this?

has anyone tried the JL VR600 speakers? The dimensions given seem to indicate that this speaker would bolt-in in with little to no modification.

I'm interested as well- and tempted to buy a set just to see. I've been very pleased with my JL purchases in the past, though that's WAY in the past... like 15 years ago...

the JL speakers will fit perfectly with the use of a 1/2" thick MDF spacer to allow the magnet to clear the door glass track. They are an exact fit diameter-wise and there are three holes in the speaker frame that line up with the factory holes in the door panel.

How is the sound? Bass? No cutting save for the back of the plastic basket?

Thanks!
