Hey guys, i'm installing a 5 channel Xtant amp in my friends car, but i'm running into problems. I'm pretty sure I have everything set up right (installed mbquart components in the front and sony xplod 6x9's in the rear). I have the amp powering all 4 speakers. My problem is whenever we go to test the system and i go to put the negative terminal back on the battery, his viper alarm goes off and the fuse to his headunit keeps blowing. What the hell is going on?!
hmmm....I dunno. Def sounds like a power/ground/fusing issue though. triple check all you wires, make sure nothing is pinched, frayed, or cut. Triple check all the main power fuses to the amp. Try disconnecting the amplifier power wire and connecting the battery, if the problem persists, its probably something to do with the head unit. Just keep testing one varable at a time like that.
Yeah we disconnected the amp and even cut the remote turn on wire, but the fuse still kept blowing. Is it possible if something in the headunit fried, it would cause the fuse to keep blowing even if the system is ok?
Ok I connected his stock radio back to the car and all four speakers work, so it doesn't ahve anything to do with those. My guess is that it has to do something with the headunit or the wiring of the radio harness. The only wiring that I did of the harness though is for the front speakers (headunit is not powering any of the speakers). I ran the speaker wire from the front radio harness back to the amp. Then the only wire I actually spliced was the remote turn on wire which i spliced into the ignition wire (red). Any ideas on why the headunit fuse keeps blowing though?

Could you please explain in more detail what you did with the fron tspeaker wires? It was kinda unclear. ..
I ran speaker wires for the front left speaker and the front right speaker from the amp to the wiring harness for the radio...I did it this way because i really didn't want to run the new speaker wire through the door. Is this wrong?

no. It sounded like you rann wires from the headunit back to the amp. . .like you were putting a powered signal INTO the head unit. I'm stumped. . .
-RCA's carrying signal to amp
-Two speaker wires from amp directly to rear speakers
-two speaker wires running from amp to front of car. These wires are then connected to the STOCK speaker wiring (this is assuming the front speakers are in the doors and you dont want to dick with running new wire through the door jamb). The HU speaker outputs for all speakers are unused, connected to nothing (you should cap the ends to prevent contact with other wires).

This sounds like what you did.
Yeah ok that's what I did.
A bad ground for the amp or bad ground for the headunit?
