2 and 4 ohms?

Have a question that I am sure you guys can answer. I am looking at kenwood component speakers for my car. All the component speaker that I have purchased and installed have always been rated at 4 ohms. I recently looked at kenwoods website and discovered the KFC-X1710p. Numbers look normal for what I am looking for.

Rated input Power=55 Watts
Peak Power=220 Watts
Impedence=2 Ohm Drive

I look at all there speakers and these are the only ones in 2 ohms. So what does this mean about this speaker. Can it do something all the others ones can't? Do I need to wire them up a different way? Also, do you guys think these are worth 125 shipped? These are part of there excelon series and is supposed to be top of their line.

it means the speaker will allow the amplifier to output more power (almost 2x as much) than a four ohm speaker would, assuming the amplifier is 2ohm stable (most quality amps are). You WILL need an external amplifier to run those, as a deck, whether it be factory or aftermarket, will not be able to handle a 2 ohm load. If you are running a 2 ohm stable amp, then yes, these speakers are worth the $125 shipped. I would try to get something more sensitive than 92 db, as it will play louder. 92 db isn't bad at all, it's just that there's more sensitive speakers to be had.

The lower ohm rating of those components just gives you different options as far as what amplifier to run them off of. Although they are rated at 55w RMS, I know those components run well all day & night off of a 100w RMS load. With that in mind, you still have to look at what amplifier you currently own or are planning on purchasing, to determine if these are the right speakers for you. I always recommend auditioning the speakers you're interested in, before you buy, if possible. Don't worry about the sensitivity. Higher sensitivity does not equal higher sound quality. Listen before you buy, if you can. Also, those speakers are 6 & 3/4", so you'll need to make oversized spacers for them, if you don't already have some.

These are the numbers for the amp that I will be using. Looking at this, does this mean I will be getting 150 X 4 RMS?

Using the 2 ohm speakers, your amp would be outputting 100w x2 to them, and then whatever to the other 2 channels, depending on what you have hooked up to them. Sounds just fine to me for those speakers.
