This year's Prelude repairs so far...

Well I Finally got around to getting on PO and starting a thread. This has been a not so good year for my 11 year old automatic Prelude Si. First the distributor goes out, and not being a true mechanic I decide to fix it myself, well the manual says the distrib. can only go in one way. So working at night like an idiot iam trying to force this thing on and got it crooked and then snapped the camshaft cap that holds the top of the dist. So I had to buy a whole head just to get that part cause they are not mass produced. To make a long story short, i was putting the dist. with the shaft in 180 degrees upside down, the holes that the teeth of the dist must of been two different sizes and the dist will only go in if these holes are matted with the right teeth of the dist shaft. And when i figured that out the dist went in perfectly and the car started. Then about 2 months later my shifter goes out, the shifter wouldnt budge into park or reverse and gears 1-4 that the shifter could move to wouldnt even go into gear the car would just rev in neutral! So now I said, the hell with it and towed it to honda, and prolly will be raped by over priced labor and parts!! So after this I hope to not have any more problems with my honda, Even though earlier before all this happened I jinxed myself by saying to friends "I bought my car 7 years old, drove it hard for 4 years and nothing bad ever happened to it"-- Stupid Me

Yeah, you gotta learn somehow, though...and that's cheaper than college. I bet 90% of the problems I've had are from me modifying stuff and then it breaks or quits working and I figure out why and learn from it.

Don't get discouraged

yea, the oly reason I figured out my distributor problem, was because I called my mechanic from back home, should of called him first to make sure he didnt have any extra information than the manual did. Also I should of took notes or remembered how that dist. was before I took it off. Also I should of used a prelude only manual, not a accord/prelude manual, I think it was a chiltons manual, they suck, hardly any detail in explaination and crappy pictures. Anyways I am an expert on changing distributors, maybe I ll learn about shifter cables, hope the parts are cheap and Honda can fix in less than 2 hours!

bah throwout bearing is a $20 part and a weekend of wrenching..

sounds like a good time for an auto -> manual swap autoluder! you could prolly pic up an h23/h22 tranny for $250 used...

I saw a h23 manual tranny for 193 on ebay, other than that all i need is the ecu, well i prolly need more parts, but i have the pedals, shifter, cables , clutchmaster cyl , clutch dampener lines, i think i need a speed sensor or something maybe mounts. But i have thought about doing the auto to manual swap, But if i got a 5spd, then i would want to have a lightened flywheel, performance clutch, LSD. And after all that I could just as easy get h22 swap where the lsd is only 300 extra and I would have a better tranny with shorter gears. Anyways my money has been going into just keeping the lude on the road, maybe next summer when I'll have money again, after all I'm a college student with a huge credit card bill.

OK, just talked to honda today, man I should of gone somewhere else, turns out that my shift cable is seized and they have to order that part with cost 210 bucks, and total cost to get my car running is 410 bucks, which I got them to drop another 40 bucks by not installing the console which is like 6 screws. Otherwise it was like 450.
So I had to wait a week to get an estimate and another week to get it fixed, and payed 200 in labor, screw you Honda!!!
