Worth it to get Hondata/eManage for fuel economy gains?

I understand that cars with major mods will already have engine management units, but for those with more conservatively modded cars (bolt-ons) who don't necessarily need one, does it make sense to get one for any mpg gains?

For those who already have units and have dialed out the richness, are you seeing any gains in fuel economy?

Having a dyno tuned car will improve power and fuel efficiency, but it is also very expensive. I don't think it would be very cost effective.

as he said, it's not cost effective really, but if you got the money go for it, will later on be an asset on maximizing power and efficiency should you later, ever, decide to add stuff

if ya want the simplest route, get the apexi neo, then emanage ultimate, doesnt really sound like the tuning $ is worth it for your needs with a standalone

The only way this would be worth the moeny is if you were to tune it with low octane pump gas. I have talk to a local shop about tuning my EVO for low octane gas for the long winters up here and having a high octane map for summer. Now it may take awhile for you to. See your money spent recovered but it would still be worth it in the long run. This means no high rpm runs shifting at low rpms.

Well, would be nice to get some data to analyze to really determine how cost-ineffective this would be. A 2mpg increase from 23 to 25mpg average traveling about 15,000 miles a year with gas at 4.50/gallon premium would take about 4-5 years to recover if the install + tuning cost about $1000.

For those who plan on keeping their cars for a while, this *may* be worth it. Not to mention the added fun.

Very true. But the extra added fun would fall by the way side in favor of less aggresive driving for fuel economy. I know for a fact that if I keep my foot out of my EVO I get atleast an additional 50 miles to the tank. It really is all about driving style.

The other thing you are not taking into account is switch ing from high octane to low. This savings is where you make your money. Remeber any car can be detuned with a standalone.

Well, haha, forgot to add the asterisk. For "added fun" when you actually decide to let loose, be totally irresponsible, and shift at higher than 3000 rpms! At least your potential fun could be higher for those rare times when you want to take advantage of it.

Very true. Are there any standalones out there that you can run dual maps on? I was planning on using the HKS setup on my EVO so I didn't research for the lude.
