A lot of them. Too many to list. Only "specialized" tools are a large nut/breaker for the axle nuts, hoist, stand (or somewhere to put the motor), crank pulley tool or air tools for the crank pulley (for timing belt)...

Are you sure you need to remove the axel nut? The Helms doesn't say anthing about removing it, it does mention the ball joint need to be separated. Maybe the fifth gens need to pull the nut but not 4th gens?

You really need to remove the axel nuts, I don't see how you would be able to remove the engine without doing that. You sure you read correctly?

pretty sore you have to pull the axle nut, so you can get the axles out of tranny. along those same lines, you might need a ball joint seperator for more room.

You're going to need metric sockets up to like 22mm, maybe bigger.

air tools are a must IMO, well worth the time saved vs. money spent on them.

an engine hoist, a stand might make your life easier too.

a torque wrench. also a must. spend the extra and get a releasing one as opposed to the bar with a pointer version.

jack, jackstands and wheel stops that you trust with your life

wear old clothes, the mess involved is unbelievable, or at least it was in my CRX.

the service manual, I consider it one of my most valuable tools.

that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

If the tranny comes out and you are crafty you can leave the axles in if you break the ball joints with the car up on stands. You can't move the car with the ball joints broken, though, so it's easier if you remove the axles instead.

No need to remove the axles from the hubs, just follow the procedure in the helms.

Well that is what the Helm's suggests to do. It has you separate the ball joints and swing the axels out of the way. The problem I have with removing the axel nut is that I think you need to bend something to get the nut to turn, plus I would have to go out and find a huge socket.

Oh well, many ways to do.

The socket for the axle nut is like $15.00 at sears...well worth it if you need to change a CV boot

You know..... I just figure it would come in handy to know which tools are needed. I would seriously want to just try it out one day and see how it goes. I think it would be fun.

If you are doing a B series swap into a civic or integra, you may need to remove the entire axle, because there is a lot of differences between those platforms. The Prelude axles dont need to be removed because all of them use the same axles.
