what does it mean when you have white smoke comin' out your exhaust?? what is that a sign of? and i'm not talkin' about the white smoke that you see when the weather's cold.
It usually means that coolant is making its way into the combustion chamber. It doesn't necessarily mean that the head gasket is bad, although this is the most popular cause.
Check your coolant and see if you have oil in the coolant. Also check the oil and see if you have water in the oil. If so, then your head gasket probably is bad.
thanks 71dsp...that makes perfect sense now...it never crossed my mind that it could have been coolant.
soopaswoze ~ fifth gen motors are fine (obvious understatment) but i just made a careless mistake...that's all. it'll be solved before the end of the day.

no it probably wont be fixed by the end of today, infact you would be lucky to get it back friday, if it is the head gasket. Do anything you need to while the top half of the engine is apart.
Yeah on a fifth gen I would say break-in prob associated with headgasket. Upon delivery of my car they forgot to give me my free tank of gas, so the salesguy took it down the street. When He came back and the car was idling I see all this white smoke coming outa the tailpipe. I'm like WTF? He sai: oh thats just the new engine materials burning off the coating from manufacturing Damn saleguy . Oh well. It seems no harm was done by him hauling azz before 50 miles, but still
Be careful, white smoke can be confused for bluish-white smoke which is oil. I have yet to see a lude burn coolant, but I've seen a ton that burn oil.
What does your oil usage look like between changes? Coolant usage at all? When you check your oil after an evening of it sitting... can you see any water or green fluid on the top part of the dipstick (above the top of the oil)? Does your coolant look brown?

My lude burns a little oil, has just over 70k on it? Any ideas on what is going on? I am also told smoke comes out of the exhaust, but I don't know what color it is

Anything a quart or less between 3k miles changes is normal. The H22 burns it pat the rings as well as through the PCV...
Find out the color of the smoke. Black is normal, as the H22 runs rich. White is not normal- even though it burns a fair bit normally, it's not enough that you should see it.
Also, if you put anything more than 5 quarts in it, you might be burning more.
well, i got my car back from the dealer yesterday...they did a valve adjustment and the car runs & pulls harder than ever. idle is perfect and the smoke is gone completely. luckily, i chose to have the car towed to the dealer rather than driving it myself because i could have really damaged it. i'm done tryna be mr. handy fix it...especially without the right tools. lesson learned.
i'm still amazed at how much torque it seems that i've gained. 2nd gear vtec feels as though the tires wanna spin. in comparison to the 6-spd CL type S that i drove yesterday, i know it would get me off the line but i don't see myself losing to it.
naw...i tightened the valves too tight, bolted the valve cover back on, stripped the thread off one of the bolts and couldn't get back under the valve cover to fix the problem. basically i f**ked up.
haha...thanks for the offer but i just got these.
