Warning to those with Legend brake conversion

As I was backing out of a parking spot today, I heard a clunk and my car wouldn't move in reverse. Weird... I put it in first and moved back into the parking spot. There I found one of the brake pads on the pavement - the outer pad had fallen off. As you know, unless you use the Legend rotors, you have to use a 5mm shim on the caliper in order to get the pads to sit right. My pads were worn enough that the outer pad on the passenger side caliper slipped from underneath the shim and off the caliper.

I've had the calipers and pads installed for almost 3 years now.

Keep a closer eye on your pads if you have this conversion and are using a shim.

This is why God created the MIG welder in my garage... you just weld the spacer and the pad together....

-smile-

Not a problem if you are only replacing every 3 years...

Do the Legend rotors fit with the VTEC brackets or did you use the Legend brackets?

Do you use a shim at all?

I'm using VTEC brackets with no shim but I'm affraid the pistons will get out of the caliper too much when the pads will be pretty much worn out. I might have to replace the pads before they're worn out.

Does it matter what side the shim is on?

You should be using a 2.5mm shim on BOTH sides, not a 5mm shim on one side. If you use a 5mm shim, then the pads aren't equally spaced in relation to the disc.

hmm...

Where can I buy some shims? Right now I'm using an old brake pad that had all the friction material taken off
