Hmm, maybe. Either that or use your jeep to run over my car. Just let me put some insurance on it.

Quick question

Is it possible just to change the ball joint on upper control arm on 2001 Prelude?
I know on 2001 Accord, I was able to buy just the ball joint, press out the old one and press new one in

Thanks in advance

Yes, you can replace just the ball-joint. But I didn't want to bother with taking to get it pressed out & in, so the whole arm was the ticket for me. Made it a painless road-side repair (which was handy, since that's where the car was stranded). Certainly can't complain about the price, and had no problems with it for the 5 months or so that I drove it before buying a different car.

Thanks for the info.
Do you know the part number of that ball joint? I found the whole arm but would like to explore possibility of replacing just the ball joint.

No idea on the part number. Any parts store should find it pretty easily, though.

So i googled and came across this thread since it very much pertains to my problem. and just have some questions, since i dont know much about mechanics. my dad takes care of it for me. :P but anyways..
Apparently both ball joints to my upper control arms in the front are pretty much gonna go soon i assume, the boots are busted open and of course when i turn i hear that loud clicking sound, but also if im going straight down the road, sometimes when i accel i hear this other grinding-type sound. Its kinda faint compared to the clicking when i turn. the grinding never happened until after my UCA's started getting real bad.
So my question is.. Can i just get the UCA's and replace them, and of course get alignment and whatnot.. and be all set to go? or will there have to be axle replacement involved? (my dad had mentioned to me about probably having to, but hes not entirely sure)

oh and its a 94 Si-Manual

That's what the manual and the Honda mechanic said, but I just replaced mine yesterday (98 non-sh model), and did both sides in about an hour without removing anything except the upper control arms.

Put a jack under the lower ball jount area once you have the pivot bolts backed out, and you can move the suspension up or down a bit to get the spring in the right spot to wiggle the bolts out. The passanger side came out no problem, the drivers side took some more wiggling to get them back in, but still a lot easier than removing the whole strut assembly.

Since I didn't remove the strutt and I bought the OEM Honda control arms (for about 100 each from an online store), I didn't need an alignment when I was done.

What was quoted as a pretty expensive job by the Honda mechanic, ended up being only about $250 and an hour or so of my time.
