UPDATE #3 Burning Oil problem, getting fixed by Honda.

Atleast that's what it seems like...

#1 Thread.. About Honda fixing my engine under several conditions..

#2 Compression and Leak Down Test

So far here's what's happened.. I took my car to another dealer for an Oil Change and had them take a look at my car, also reported my burning oil problem.. And here's what I got...

As you can see they claim that my lower oil pan and rear main seal is leaking oil onto my exhaust... So I told them that I've already taken it to another dealer and paid them to check the car for leaks and run some tests but they never found anything... The Tech Advisor said there's a chance they didn't check my car thoroughly... He also said that they won't do any Oil Consumption test, unless I get those replaced. I told them I have warranty, they said no problem it'll be covered.. So I told them okay do it then...

As soon as I got out of that dealer, I went back to the previous dealer (Honda of Pasadena) and told them that I just got done talking to another dealer and they claim my car has leaks all over the place, I told them about my concerns and the Tech Advisor was nice enough to have me come back next day for a free check up.. He said he'll even have me take a look at the leaks that the other dealer claims.. So they lifted the car, and showed me the "leaks" and to be honest with you, I saw nothing but oil sweat on the tranny.. Not enough oil leaking for me to see oil spots.. And the oil pan was clean too... But they told me if the other dealer wants to do it, have them do it, not like I have to pay anything but just know that what they're doing will not fix my problem..

Took it to the other dealer and it took them 4 working days to fix the problem and when they got it fixed.. This is what I got..

And not only did it take them forever but they added another 40-60 miles on my car! So what do you guys think...

Well, did it stop the oil problem? Don't understand what you want to know. 40 miles seems a bit excessive. But it says they use tracer dye, and some ofthe seals they replaced are common leak locations (VTEC solenoid and distrib)

You got like a grand worth of work done and all it cost you was 4 days with no car? Sounds not so bad.

Let us know if this actually fixes the problem. I suspect it won't, but keep us updated. I think the oil you were losing from the seals was minimal, but perhaps under VTEC they would leak more. I know mine must be going somewhere, but it's not fouling the plugs so maybe I do have some bad seals somewhere.

Can anyone tell me where the VTEC solenoid is located? I might have a look at mine.

thats good to hear progress on your problem, especially with a dealer who "wants" to fix your car.

Hmm... with the completely different reports from each dealer, you might want to call corporate honda or honda care...
If the leaks were for real and the other dealer didn't find them, that's really bad. If one dealer is making up work for it's techs and joyriding your car for 60 MILES there is something even more wrong. I can't see how that would take 4 days unless they had to order parts.

It all depends on the weight of the oil. If it's 5/30 it'll be a quart every 500 miles, 10/30 is anywhere from 500-750 sometimes more miles, per quart... And 10/40 is 1000 miles per quart and a couple of ounces

And to be honest I don't think it fixed the problem cause I never had that bad of a leak anyways, I never found any oil spots on the ground even if I'm parked for weeks...

What dealer attempted to fix it?

Seems strange that you would be losing that much oil from "leaks" and it wouldn't be spewing all over the engine or left on the ground. It should be very noticeable..not just some "oil sweat on the tranny". I consume 1 qt every 2k miles and my engine is clean enough to eat off of.

sounds like they are atleast saying it does burn oil
my car burns about 1 qt every 3000 miles
so i put in 5 when i do an oil change and when i do the next one i only have 4 quarts coming out.
honda said our car is a sports car so its suppose to burn oil

The best thing is you get your car back in a non-burning way! What a good $25 you've spent on oil change

BTW, what dealer did you go to get it fixed? Panda Honda (was on the background of your sips)?

Honda of Pasadena is the biggest bunch of idiots...they supposedly tested my sisters cooling system after she got into an accident and found that the raditor was bad and it needed to be replaced little did they know that she just had the raditor replaced at the body shop...case in point they asked her to fix something that was already fixed. I have had nothing but great experiences with Nelson Honda in El Monte...a bit further but well worth it.
